Damn dude, glad you made it through relatively unscathed. Truck and phone can be replaced...may be a super pain in the ass but property is property. Luckily nobody that mattered was seriously injured. Unlucky that the asshole that stole your truck WASN'T injured.

Depends on the circumstances but let's put it this way I'm not going to lose any sleep over the chance that this could or would happen. I would spend more time worrying about drunk drivers, leukemia, and melanoma.

I agree, it's a highly unlikely scenario. But why is it unlikely? Because most people don't have guns, if the majority of people have guns, it could be a serious problem. Or possibly not a problem at all, maybe nobody would commit crimes like what happened to the OP if everyone had a gun. Really no way to know.

Drunk drivers, another subject. Some people are capable of driving perfectly safe drunk, so I'm not a fan of the blanket laws.

Sorry to hear that man. I'm glad you are ok.

Could you share some details on how this happened? Did you notice them before they pulled a gun on you? Any specifics on how? I just ask to learn if there is something I should be doing different.

YUP..........Here anyone can carry open or concealed loaded and within reach in their vehicle. OF course when someone has a gun pointed at you, reaching for yours will likely cost you your life. They already have the drop on you. Best just give it up and hope they recover it.

Maybe OP could have taken the key fob with him, when they told him to get out of the truck

OP, how is your truck doing? Do you have any pictures?

I have studied Krav Maga for situations like this. I hope it never happens though

As for the gun issue, I am a teacher. I will never carry a weapon on my campus

Absolutely.... armed or not. It would be best if everyone pays enough attention, and trusts their instincts instead of freezing up in order to prevent that gun being put to your head in the first place.... again armed or not. Situational awareness is really the best tool anyone has. A firearm is helpful, but so is just getting away.

I don't think anyone would just shrug it off, but unlucky is part of life.

I definitely would, but I don't think the government can decide based on if they will or won't do the right thing. If they have a history of being a bad person, sure. If someone isn't willing to really spend some time thinking, reading, training about when to apply a firearm, they shouldn't carry, but the government can't fix that. That's really personal responsibility.

Sorry for your experience, so glad you are O.K. These situations can go south quick. Thank you for posting, and reminding us to stay vigilant, that shows great character! Hopefully, karma will be right along to take care of the perpetrators!
