every single dealer i have ever asked has cringed and immediately said no when installing anything suspension related.

Good idea! Hoping to be able to go to one that Unchained is trying to set up for us here in the New England area. No date yet, so maybe when we come up with one it'll put "pressure" on me to figure out if I want to do something or not.

+1!! I had never wrenched on a vehicle before I purchased my truck. Decided I wanted to lift it, borrowed my cousins tools and his driveway for a day, read a few DIY's on the net and went at it. First time, took me like 11 hours or something ridiculous to install 885 Coils, and a rear block....lol

Since then I have removed the lift, installed 5100's, installed an AAL, removed it, and a number of other things that would have cost me hundreds of dollars in labor if someone else had done it. Now I always give a project a go on my own before I think about taking it anywhere. I am yet to have to take it somewhere to have anything mechanical done other than tires and alignments.

 

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not very good at this sort of stuff. And to add to that, I'm honestly afraid of messing with that sort of stuff on my own and break something and then have to dish out a crapload of money to fix my mistake. Would rather have it done by someone who knows what they're doing. But I definitely ENVY every one on here that does all that stuff on their own. Every time I ready a post on here, about what someone did to their truck and it's mechanical, I turn green with envy. Seriously.

So a big KUDOS to everyone who does and can do all that bigger stuff on their own!

 

I didn't ask them about that. Just asked them to do it last minute as I dropped it off. So we'll see what that costs. LoL

 

My dealer sells ARB and Old Man Emu kits so I think they may be an anomaly. I'm actually surprised at how well they've treated me sobe buying my Taco from them. My prior vehicle I didn't get the same level of service.

 

Do what's best for you, obviously, but I always think of it this way: if you have enough money to pay someone to do the work in the first place, you probably have enough money to have someone fix it if you try to do it yourself and fail.

 

I paid $300.00 to have ball joints done on my pinto almost 30 years ago. Been fixing cars ever since, I have been ASE master for 20 years.

 

Good point. I just wished I could do it to be able to feel proud of doing it myself, as well as save that money too. That would be nice!

Ever since 2011 ive been googling and youtubing and creeping the forums on how to do what im trying to do. Not going to pay someone 90 bucks an hour in labour AND pay for the fix its self. Just do it myself and then i save money. After doing some things my self ive felt more and more confident after every fix/mod. Used to rely on my friend cause he went to a mechanics school but that doesnt mean he knows what he ia doing lol. He effed up my cavalier and lost screws while trying to help me with the front plastic bumper. Ever since then ive tried to do it myself .

 

LOL! I would definitely try and take a crack at it, but if I saw that I would be going way over my head, and didn't feel comfortable, I would just rather put a halt to it and pay someone who I would hope and think knew what they were doing, to get it done right. Definitely wouldn't want to bust something up myself. I think I would kick myself in the ass forever if I F'ed something up real bad myself. Especially if it's something to do with suspension, mechanical, that sort of thing.

Perhaps but imagine of you paid someone to do it and they effed it up, now you gotta try and calm your rage.

The dealer i went to yesterday for my oil change said the vibration i was feeling while driving and braking was my rotors being warped. And that they could fix it for 120 bucks. I declined and went on my way... weirdest thing happened. After they balanced my tires it somehow fixed my warped rotors. Like magic.
