This chirping issue I've had since I got the truck. I had a 2001 ranger that was chirping as soon as you started it in the winter and would chirp if I bombed through water. The ranger had a chirping cam synchro. My Tacoma will chirp continuously while driving, when I push the clutch in it stops. It also increases pitch with accelerating.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

That sounds like classic glazed belt chirp

Throw out bearing. This being the key phrase:

"when I push the clutch in it stops."

Yup thank you and everyone else. The tech at my nearby off-road shop said it'd be a big job and might as well get a clutch job. So I'm going to live with the chirping until I get enough money.

Yes, might as well do both at the same time. The throw out bearing fix requires dropping the transmission. URD sells a kit to fix it, or you can buy the updated stuff from Toyota.

What Chris24 said get the kit from URD to fix the quill. The usual Toyota items wont cure the issue, the throw out bearing is harder material than the quill so it wears a grove in it. The bearing doesn't slide back and forth freely, not releasing completely.......the Chirp

This is awesome! I just had my clutch replaced after the throwout bearing siezed, then desintegrated taking out the pressure plate. The repair shop said, the sleeve was worn with grooves in it. The gave me three options; 1) replace trans, 2) replace bellhousing, 3) smooth and polish it. I picked the thrid choice, because I need my truck back for work. I was just saying to my employee the other day, it would be nice if there was some kind of sleeve that could go over the area where the throwout bearing rides.

Thank you guys for the info!!

I've been driving with the chirping sound for about two years. The sound comes and goes. I haven't heard the chirp for over a week but I know it'll come back soon.

When my throwout bearing went bad, it chirped like crazy and sounded like there were a mob of angry crickets underneath my truck. It was loudest when coasting in gear, and would go away when the clutch was pressed in, even just slightly.

Sounds like your's is the throwout bearing as well. Have to drop the trans and clutch to replace it, so it's best to just replace the entire clutch assembly while you're at it.

When they start to chirp they can last you another few years or it could fail on you later today, hard to tell. I went ahead and bit the bullet on getting mine fixed when the chirping got louder. Last thing I wanted was to get stranded while out wheeling in the middle of nowhere.

Mine has been like that for 230k miles. Just waiting for the clutch to expire then I will install the URD kit.

I've been driving close to 40K miles like that I'm now at 88K. Sometimes mine sounds like a mob of angry crickets but at times you can't even hear it.

Mine does too sometimes i hear it then I goes away but comes right back. It only does it with the clutch out. when i depress it its fine. Just that issue Toyota has soft quill and a hard throw out bearing.

2.5" rancho 9000xl lift with UCA's, custom rock sliders, custom rear tube bumper, road armor front bumper, k&n air intake, winch, lights etc.
So I was driving on the highway for about an hour, the roads were bumpy somewhat for a highway. When I got to my destination I let my truck idle for a few minutes like I always do to circulate the hot fluids and I got out to stretch and heard the most horrendous noise my truck has ever made.
It literally sounded like a train coming from the back of my transmission. I was scared because of how loud it was and where it was coming from. So I cancelled the idea of fixing the t.I. bearing with a coworker and called Toyota.
They replaced the t.o. bearing, clutch disc, clutch plate, and my shift lever which was as loose in gear as it was in neutral. I had MULTIPLE broken springs in the disc and a few bent fingers on the plate! I did get some video footage of the sound before getting it fixed and I've got the old parts. im going to make a video with the footage and showing the old parts which when it's done I'll leave a link in here.

Total bill from Toyota charged me $1730.03 !!!

Thanks again everyone for your help!!

Toyota in LA wanted to charge me nearly $3k just to do a clutch job so it sounds like you got a deal.

By clutch job you mean replacing the same components as I mentioned plus others? What'd they quote you on for hour approximate?
I had no idea owning a 4x4 could be so expensive (previous owner let 'er go to shit it seems like) and I've still got stuff that needs fixing!!
