How the hell are you getting this gas milage!??! I do drive a lot of city driving and I have to admit moving up from my 94 Toyota pickup with 22re I've been punching it a little bit, but damn, i think I'm averaging 17.5

The highway rev match from 6th to third is unreal, you get going too fast very quickly

I had mine up to 25.2 for a bit a couple weeks ago.....Didn't last the whole tank though, only about 75 miles.

I had mine up to 25 for a little bit, that's because I filled up and then coasted down a hill. Actually this past tank I've been holding a steady 21 for over 3/4 of the tank and I don't know what's changed or what I'm doing differently.

I drive mostly highway in hilly country. I'm averaging 21.5 to just over 22 per tank. I have the stock P metric tires still. I also usually drive with my Softopper up, which may or may not help. I usually shift up around 2800 RPM, but I'm not shy about downshifting early before a hill and gunning it to keep my speed. I occasionally use non-ethanol gas, which gets me about 1 MPG more. I was using normal E-10 in the photo, driving across some flat valleys in central CO.

I bought a 2016 Taco three months ago - 4x2 SR with the 2.7 I4. Can't get manual trans that way, but I don't have $30k (plus) to spend on a TRD, so I have the 6-speed auto. First time in 36 years I bought a vehicle with auto trans. It was a mistake. I thought I'd adjust to it, but I just don't like it, which is a shame because it's a nice truck otherwise. I'm also not buying the line that automakers are giving us about gas mileage being as good or better with an automatic - I was getting 27 MPG on the 2006 Taco with 5-speed manual that I traded in - also a 4x2 with the 2.7. Now I'm getting 24 MPG. I know automakers can only build what sells, but I'm really disappointed in Toyota for taking the configuration off the table that gave the best gas mileage. I also wish they'd have more regard for people's driving habits and not try to force people into something they don't want...

I probably should have kept the 2006.

I thought that a manual trans was an option for the base model SR Tacomas? I was looking at getting a new one earlier this year, 4x4 SR with a manual. Maybe it's cause it was 4wd

eon_blue - I just looked at the KBB web site and you're correct. I guess I didn't look into it because I didn't really want the gas mileage penalty of the 4x4 (EPA 20 hwy. versus EPA 23 hwy.)

Nope. Works in 2wd too. Just be sure to start moving before it releases and you start rolling downhill backwards!

Are you sure you have a manual, or if you have a manual are you sure you don't just have a caliper sticking?

HAC (hill-start assist control) only comes on automatic transmission models...

Duh, how do I tell if I got a manual? Is that the one with thuh letters on da shifty thing? Of course I have a manual. Why would I be posting here otherwise? Yes, it does have hill start assist, not a sticking caliper. You have to come to a complete stop for at least a second or two. You can then release the brake pedal and it will hold for 3-5 seconds before releasing. I'm not sure what the point would be of having hill start assist in an automatic, but they may have it also.

Mine does not do this. I have a very steep driveway and a remote control gate that opens for me to drive up my driveway. When I stop on the hill to wait for the gate to open, whether that be for a split second or a few seconds, I let off the brake I roll back immediately if I have not already begun slipping the clutch. My 2016 behaves just like my 86, 96 and 07 did. Pretty sure mine does not have this feature.

Maybe the Offroad doesn't have it. Mine's a Sport.

No, I specifically ordered mine without the tech package. The only option package mine has is the all weather mats /door sill protectors.
