Just buy a Zero. You can plug it in when you're at your gynecologist appointment.

Just for some perspective. I have owned my 2005 450exc from new and have done oil changes at 300 mile intervals and changed filters and cleaned screens every other oil change. I have several air filters and put in a fresh filter around every 100 miles. At 13,000 miles I had the head redone with kibblewhite valves because I ran out of valve adjustment and put in a new piston and rings. The piston was not worn out and the rings were still within the wear limits. I did not have any gunk or sludge in the motor. I do alot of my riding on trails in sandy conditions but mostly am leading the ride or riding solo so not riding in the dust much. I know that what I described above seems like a lot of preventative maintenance but It has really paid off for me in terms of reliability and longevity without any mechanical failure. I have put another 5000 miles on since the rebuild and haven't had any problems. I'm going to check the intake valves before finishing up a full service to begin another summer of fun. Dirt getting past the filter and worn out oil are what kills motors on most bikes ... or having your oil plug fall off.

Sunday morning just getting started putting things back together, cleaning everything and changing all fluids.

Mid day. Went with red vent lines.

Decided to mount the stock tank.

Still have a few things to put back on. Need to remove the front end and clean and service everything and it will be "TIME TO RIDE"!

Dang every 300 miles? It doesn't take me too long to get there with all the on road crusing I do.

    For perspective.

I change my oil ever 1200-1800 miles. It costs me about $30. I clean the air filter every other oil change.

Suzuki recommended oil change interval is ever 3500 miles.

I just don't like road riding very much. Like to carve my turns through the trees. Got the dual sport so I could connect trails. The manual recommends longer oil/filter change intervals.

I change it every 20-25 hours which is about 200-300 miles depending on if I'm on trails or cruising around on the street. Sometimes it's 400-500 miles when there's more street and less trails. Distance means less then time when it comes to oil changes. The KTM's have built in engine hour meters as well as odometers.

My oil changes cost $18 and would cost just $6 in oil (1.2L with filter change from a 1 gal rotella t6 5w-40 ordered from Amazon) if I bought stainless oil filters and just washed them each use. I change filters every oil change; I know others who change them every other oil change. I'm anal.

So yes it costs more, but not that much more in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah I suspect the previous owner(s) of my bike had some air filter issues as the piston was caked with crud and that invariably led to the cylinder wearing out earlier then expected. I did the kibblewhites so I don't have to check them as often since the kibblewhites barely move after initial break-in. That and I was starting school this year and wouldn't have time to tear the bike apart for a few years.

Overjetted? That's bad enough that even the "Italian Tuneup" would have a hard time cleaning that out.

 damn 300 miles isn't very far. But that's a legit dirtbike I suppose
You pay too much. Gallon of rotella $13 and 2 filters ($10) for 2 changes.
    Rotella ftw

Probably shouldn't have poked fun at ya over the drain plug, sorry for that. It was just low hanging fruit. I've had my share of unfortunate mishaps and taken some heat for it in the past. 300 miles is about 4 to 5 days on a riding camping adventure. Usually ride a 50ish mile loop each day or the equivalant. When I get the bike back home it almost always gets torn down like the first pic. for maintenance, inspection and cleaning. Kinda excessive but I do a lot of solo rides in remote locations and I do not want to have to deal with a broken bike.
