This is exactly what mine does, but I never have a problem if I pause between on and start. I'm fairly certain it involves the security keys. I could be wrong.

Glad I don't have all the extra emissions bs and extra computers y'all have on the newer models.

And I'm glad I don't have frame rust Ha Ha.
    Just messin with you.

I don't care if it's a security feature. That just means I need to slow down and turn the ignition on for a moment before I turn on the truck. I'm just concerned it could be a fuel pressure issue or something and it, over time, wears down on my starter from the chronic over-cranking.
Just want to make sure everything is ok and the truck is taken care of properly.

Who knows, it could just be the Ford Gods punishing me for buying a Toyota :p

I have this exact same thing happen but very seldom. Maybe 3 or 4 times in a year where it just sits there and cranks. Usually when I know it is doing it I stop cranking it over and then when I try again it flashes right up no problem. It's an odd thing but I got the same story from the dealership that they would need to see it in action.

The only info I can add in my case is it seems to happen in winter when I've gone to work and it is very cold outside when I shut the truck down and then later in the day when it is much warmer and I try to start it for the first time it just cranks over. It hasn't happened enough for that to be a conclusive condition, but I've been trying to pay attention when it does happen.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Ditto on mine. Doesn't happen with any frequency. Also noticed it seems to be on cold mornings with warm afternoons. Condensation in the cylinders???

I have a 2015, happens to me once every 3-4 months when I jump into the truck and don't give it any time when I put the key into the ignition and just start cranking. It's weird and embarrassing, I don't know why it does it and it seems to be a common hiccup with Tacomas. I wouldn't worry about it.

So no one has figured out the issue and or repair? It’s very embarrassing. I’ll try the other key and post any changes since it seems quite a few people are experiencing the same.

The issue for me just stopped.

I have not had an odd cranking issue in over a year. I do not remember anything I did (or didn't) do that was associated with it stopping.

I not have an odd clunking and grinding in the rear when I make sharp left turns.
I'm selling this thing in a few years...

Same on mine. In 3 years of owning it, it's done it probably 3 times, all winter conditions and sub 10* F.

My conclusion, based on such limited exposure to it, was the check valve holding fuel in the lines from draining back to the tank, was affected by the extreme cold and allowed fuel to drain out of the line, losing its ability to have fuel instantly on startup. A 3-5 second crank period allowed it to start just fine, in each case.

Annoying, but not a regular occurrence for me yet.

Mine does it about 2-3 times a year, very, very randomly.
cranks and cranks nothing happens, I quickly stop cranking and fires right up on second try.
    weird.

Any body come ever pin point this? I've search a few different posts about this issue but there doesn't seem to be any conclusions! I feel like there isn't any rhyme or reason to it, happens at all different times and temps. Only thing I know is its not the battery!
