I want to do the conversion on my 14 tacoma prerunner, I want a manual fj cruiser transfer case, one question, I don't seem to find manual locking hubs, what can I do so when I run on 2hi, I get the front drive shaft and CVS free of spinning.?
Also did you had to do a change of your computer?
Thx, I went through all the posts of this thread. Nice!

New 05-15 Tacomas don't have manual locking hubs. The differential lock is controlled by a switch inside of the truck that you can buy from Rock Solid Toys. When you shift into 4x4, you simply press this button to lock the differential then press it again when you're back into 2wd. The wiring and switch from Rock Solid Toys is like $130.

    What do you mean?

Also with the rocks solid toys ADD switch, do I need the automatic fj tcase or manual? With actuator

    Thanks!

Edit, I did found a thread on rocks solid toys, so every prerunner comes with the 4x4 ecu already? I saw that Is not needed anymore, like you mentioned.

I just can't find where to buy the harness, I guess I have to create an account on their forums first... Or where?

What Bryan said above about the front diff. Your CVs are always going to be spinning. Your front drive shaft will not spin if you have the front diff unlocked with the switch from RST.

I didn't change anything with my computer because everything works independent of it. I think there is a way to do this but is much more complicated.

Study wyatt's thread on RST, pretty much everything you need to know is there. You can email Wyatt and it is $135 shipped for the ADD harness. You do not need to mess with the ECU.

The 4wd ecu is no longer needed with the Fj case. Prerunners do not have a 4wd ecu

ouch, he does good work though.

05-15 for the transmission, front diff, and CVs. And whatever year the FJ cruisers were available those will work too. The driveshaft you are better off sourcing from a junkyard and just getting it lengthened.

I'm into my swap about $1600 so far, but have an electronic tcase I can sell (came with the trans I bought). Just need to get the front driveshaft flange from a buddy and probably retube my driveshaft with a slip joint. Taking my front diff to ECGS tomorrow for regear before I start the conversion (did not include regear with that $1600, it's optional).

Edit; I also bought a URD 4x4 y pipe to relocate my crossover so there's that cost, I figured I'll pair it with my URD headers.

I should come out pretty good if I can make some back from my 2wd trans and taco tcase.

    4x4 conversion w/ manual T-case
I believe the only person that offers a manual FJ case for this modification is Wyatt. That is who I went with. They are a little more than $900 but have been modified to be manual and have new seals and oil pumps. They come ready to bolt on to your 4wd tail housing. Others may know somebody else to get one from. I am not positive, but I believe you can't get a FJ t-case that is already manual. I think you have to get an electronic one and modify it. I could be wrong.

Getting the manual sticks up into the cab was the most time consuming and difficult part for me.

As Andy mentioned above, don't forget about the y-pipe.

FJ cases are manual shift. It needs to be from an automatic trans model, you can find them on eBay. Wyatt modifies them for twin sticks which is not necessary just for the conversion. IIRC the 6 speed FJ's are full time 4wd and the cases are different.

I have a prerunner 2006, just got an engine from a 2006 4x4 both 4.0. Having problems with it staying running. Any info? Engine is good. Gives engine light now and dies. Think I need to change brain?
