I did put down a deposit, and signed an agreement saying the deposit was to hold the truck. I thought the best part was him not denying what I said about being told I should have offered thousands more. I work rotating shifts and had worked a 16 hour shift the night before he called me. I told him as much over the phone and told him I'd call back at 4 pm, which is exactly what I did. He didn't return my call and I tried again 2 days later. Still haven't heard anything even though I left a message with name and number. It was great how he tried to say it was due to me sulking or whatever term he used even though it was the fact I had slept 2 or 3 hours after being awake for over 24.

I'm past it though, I'm leaving the review and recommending people look elsewhere whenever they ask me. New truck should be here in a month so I'm looking forward to it.

I hand picked all of the options, not one that was ordered and in transit.

I ordered from a different dealer. There's no way I'm ever going to give money to them after this incident.

Glad you're still getting the truck you want. BUT in your edit you REALLY should have said you put down a deposit and have papers to prove it. That's the problem, your fighting issues that don't matter. The real problem is you put down a deposit and have paperwork for it. And they sold it. Not the calls or emai junk you tried to fight. Technically that's theft on thier part.

Wow... Mr. Torgue... I feel for you! The guys at Carson Toyota sound like douche bags! I feel very lucky after hearing your story. I went to Toyota Carlsbad a couple of weeks ago and the internet sales manager helped me locate the exact model and trim that I wanted and I put a deposit down the following day. The car arrived within 10 days and I am now the proud owner. I did, however, pay MSRP because of the demand in our area. Bottom line, there are some respectable dealerships out there. I am happy camper and love my truck. I am glad this story worked out for you in the end and I'm confident you will love your truck also.

So a dealer was offered extra money (doesn't dispute this), sold it out from under the OP, but people are questioning the integrity of the OP over the integrity of the dealer??! The OP has done absolutely nothing to question his integrity.

Edit: After reading other responses to complaints on Yelp by this manager, it is pretty obvious he is a petty manipulative dickbag. I will give the OP the benefit of the doubt.

Since I was given the deposit back when the truck was not delivered it's not theft. It's just a voided contract. I don't know if they were going to try to pull a fast one or not and switch trucks on me.

if you got paperwork on that said truck, it will have that vin and everything. They sold property that wasnt thiers. But that doesnt matter, my point is....

If I didnt read this side of your story, all I had to go on was the yelp review you posted. I would think you were an idiot, and expected them to hold a truck without a deposit. I would totally be on the dealerships side. You need to edit your review.

OP I do agree with the others that you should edit your review to add that that you did place a deposit. I would even screenshot the date, payee and amount of the deposit (blanking out sensitive data of course). This will prove them even more deceitful.

Not sure why you quoted me.
I would rather buy from a dealer that treated customers with respect.
It's not right to promise a truck to someone then turn around and sell it out from under them. I don't care what you say, that is not a good business practice.

Great, you made a nice profit on one truck, but now you lost 10 customers because the guy you screwed over gave you a crappy review.

I have worked for many small businesses in the past and currently work for 2. We'd be out of business by now with your mission statement right here.

If you don't take care of your customers, someone else will.

Yeah I agree at leaving the review. Sorry I missed the bit about you having put down a deposit. Like I said though, even if the situation was a verbal agreement, I would still have been upset. Sure in that case they would not have had any real obligations, but I wouldn't appreciate being lied to.

Go read the actual yelp review from 1/20, and the response from the dealership. Sounds like there's more to the story tbh.

If you actually paid attention to who he was talking to, you'd realize he was referring to someone who ended up buying from the same dealership who screwed them. I gave a big fuck you to Carson and Toyota Corporate backed me in it. That shit bag from Carson tried to close out the issue as being resolved when in reality it was far from it. Toyota set me up with a different dealership and expedited my order. If you look through their Yelp reviews you'll see its pretty common for them to pull stunts like that.

A different person had to deal with them agreeing to one price online but not honoring it in person.

All they see is the dollar signs in front of their face instead of long term. What they don't realize is that since they screwed me for 4k on a truck, I've steered several people to other Toyota dealerships instead based on both my experience and the response to my review.

The job I have works long hours and at odd times. I had worked 3 nights in a row 16 hours each after having worked 4 days in a row at 12 hours each trying to make up for us being short staffed. He called in his response to my complaint at 10:30 am, a time that would work for most people, however it was smack dab in the middle of my chance to sleep before going back to another 12 hour night shift. I told him I wasn't able to talk at that moment, since I was half asleep and that I'd call him back at 4 when I woke up. He gave me a shitty attitude, tried closing the complaint and then refused to answer my return call or several messages I left trying to reach him. Their customer relations guy is a jack ass to say the least.

Did Toyota Corporate ever punish this dealer?

Completely opposite experience from my dealer Twin City Toyota in Herculaneum, MO. They found a difficult to find one for me (TRD OR 6MT loaded) that was 400 miles away. Sent 2 guys to get it who drove it in. $90 destination fee. Have had great experience with Mugenast Honda in St. Louis, too. Bad, bad experinces with Dodge dealers and Chrysler Corp.

I have no idea and it seems unlikely that anyone outside of Toyota and the dealership would be privy to that information. Them expediting the order and giving me the deal they did leads me to believe they agreed with my complaint.
