Window tint is too heavy

I bought this slightly used '09 Tacoma a week ago. I flew down to AZ and picked it up, drove it back to Colorado. It's a great truck; I love it. But the windows are tinted way too dark for me. On the way back home, in the middle of Monument Valley, at night and into the dawn, I couldn't see anything around me except through the windshield. You couldn't see a pedestrian crossing the street at night. Parking is a hassle, etc. It looks cool, and I'm learning to deal with it, but I want lighter windows. How easy is it to remove the tint? Does it just require a blade tool, like the type for removing window stickers? Will there be adhesive left on the glass?

 

It will just peel right off, but you will have to use something to remove all the glue left behind.

 

try a heat gunn or maybe even a blow drryer and for the adhesivee maybe some goof off or sumthing.

 

Maybe you can go to your local tint shop and have them take it off for you. I brought used 2007 trailblazer two years ago and it have pretty dark tint in the front windows. They remove films with their fluid and some heat thing. Cost me $5 dollar. Better than nothing.

Your local tint shop will use some sort of hot steam to take it off. Peels off in a matter of seconds.

 

doesn't look too dark to me. I can see inside in that picture and its overcast. Have you driven a tinted vehicle before? It will take some getting used to. Once you go tinted you will never go back.

 

Heat it up start peeling, use mineral spirits and a rag for any left over residue.

Then hate the previous owner for the pain you'r gonna feel on your fingertips if it comes off in pieces.

Or have a tint shop remove it if you plan on putting new tint on. They'll probably won't charge too much as long as you get new tint with them.

 

From my experience anything with ammonia in it will take the glue off. Cleaners like dirtex should take the glue off no problem.

It used to be that Spray 'n Wash would loosen the adhesive. Once you get an edge of the tint up, try the Spray 'n Wash, pulling slowly. That's the way I did it a few years ago. Not sure if it's the same these days.

Thanks for all the good ideas. I did one window out in the cold while waiting for my wife to shop and it was a bitch: small pieces of tint tearing off and lot's of glue to deal with. The second one I did at home in the garage with a blow dryer, and razor blade- much better. I'll probably leave the limo tint on the back windows, because my 11 year old daughter demands it. But I wouldn't mind having it lighter. And when I put a snug top on, I'll have to take the tint off the back slider.
The cab is much lighter now, and I like seeing out of the front windows. I was feeling like a draft horse with blinders on. Especially in the dark. I measured the density with a light meter, I was loosing 5 stops of light in front, more in back. I thought it looked cool when I first saw the truck, but then I grew tired of it. Lighter tint in the front and half as much in back I think would be acceptable for me. All you guys with real dark windows, I agree, it looks really good. It just wasn't working for me.
