Old trucks are better anyways, and an 03 isnt really that old. You can actually work on them. Parts are common and reasonable.

At 100K pop your valve cover off and check your clearances so you dont burn a valve. Thats about the only problem these trucks have.

Hell yeah! Buy it right now!
I bought my SR5 with 250K on the Transmission and engine. Not a single whine or problem.

Please. Lets get a better story going that that. Some of us have actually run Solo II in multiple venues, as well as HPDE.

    1) Tell me the size of your tires, the RPM fuel cut and final gear ratio, and I'll wager the math says 130 is not possible.

    2) I've never seen 130 on ANY autox course, even at Nationals. With the big boys. The elements simply aren't long enough. 65-70 is about it on a straight section. Another reason is SCCA rules restrict the street class to 70 for insurance purposes.

    3) the wrecked white truck in the pic. Is that supposed to be the autox victim? First, as a tech, that truck wouldn't get on course in a legit event. It's not properly modified for that type of handling. 2nd, if that's wall damage at 130, you barely touched the wall.

    4) you mention 'laps'. Autox doesn't run laps in competition. Occasionally on fun events we'll run hot laps or enduro. But SOP is one lap, cool down of tires and adjustments to the suspension if needed. Multiple heats.

Sorry, but my BS meter just blew a gasket. I need to go rebuild it. :goingcrazy:

I don't know what any of this means, but I was thinking the same thing. That truck looks like it was built for trail riding. I'd imagine, at 130, it'd be shaking like hell and something as small as a 10 degree turn would have it rolling since it's so high off the ground. My wife's uncle owns a wrecker service and they're right next door to us and most cars that have wrecked around 40-50 MPH look 10 times worse than that. Also, I could be wrong b/c I don't know shit about truck racing or whatever this is supposed to be called, but any vehicle I've ever seen set up for high speeds sits low to the ground and has parts a little more aerodynamic than all stock…also, there looks like there's no roll cage in there, either. Not saying he's lying, but he's got some 'splainin to do

haha not quite. He's just saying that 1st ten tacoma's go forever. 150,000 miles on a Tacoma is like 10,000 on a Ford. Most folks consider theirs good and broke in at 200k. My father-in-law has a 87 and an 84 pickup and he always jokes around that he welded the hoods shut on his the day he buys them…joke being, if you take care of them, they'll last forever.

Buy it and drive for the next 15 years, pending you maintain it. I bought a 2003 base model with 55k miles. I now have 75k with zero issues so far. But I do maintain it.

    cheers

Does a TRD license plate frame count as a mod?
Dude, I just bought a 2011 with 90,000 miles on it (which is high for that age) and never thought twice. A 2003 with 90k is a find.

I'll chime in. I had a 1999 2.7l that I bought in 2007 with only 11k miles. Snapped the crankshaft at 36k miles. Rebuilt the engine and then ate a crank bearing at around 70k miles. Fixed it and traded it in. I'm wondered if there was a problem with the block. Don't mean to scare you but spending extra dough for a low mileage isn't always worth it.

Bought a 07 and changed the 4x4 actuator at 65k and the starter today at 99k.

Ya I guess at 90,000 it's proven and broken in. Any bugs are worked out. Makes me feel better about my 127,000 mile 2nd gen.
