Dual Battery Setups! Let's see them! Multiple Batteries Thread!

Nonetheless, I really apreciate the feedback you have given to me.

 

This is my setup, I have enough lights starring me in the face while driving, so i put mine in the center console. its easily monitored when i just leave the lid open. also the dual volt meter is grounded to a pin switch so it only turns on when I open the center console

 

Damn, I need a emergency spork too.

Hey my fellow dual battery peeps, i posted this on the 1st Gen thread as well.....but hoping to get some insight...lately my battery dash light has come on and its to the point my radio cuts off, wipers run slow...etc. both my batteries are reading above 12volts with the truck not running (btw i have a dual battery setup with the Blue Sea ML-ACR) i am thinking its a ground issue but any insight or anyone who has ever had this issue with a solution would be a lifesaver.....as electrical is not my strong suit....Thanks!!!

 

What is the voltage output measured at the alt or at the battery closest to the alt?

 

12.6 at the battery without the truck running

 

I am asking what the reading is while the truck is running.

 

Do you have a multi-meter. Get a voltage reading at the battery closest to the alt, while the engine is running.

I am thinking your alt output is low causing the issues you raise. Anything below 13 volts would indicate a problem. A healthy alt should put out between 13.5-14.0 at least.

If your batts are at 12.6 with the engine off, with it on the alt should be cranking at least 14v to bring them up.

 

This seems to be an alternator on its last leg. I had the same thing going on with my truck. Battery light on which means low voltage output from alternator, slow wipers, windows up/down really slow, lights are very dim, these are the warning signs before the alternator no longer can charge your batteries and run your accessories at the same time. Eventually your engine will stop running all together. Maybe at a place you don't want to be broken down at. Another way to tell besides checking the voltage from the alternator if you don't have a multi meter is start your engine, disconnect your battery, turn on your accessories, lights, radio, a/c, etc. If the alternator is not putting out enough voltage, your engine will shut off.. I was running off my batteries, draining them and the alternator had just enough voltage to charge the batteries for a couple more days, then bam, my truck died in the middle of the road.... I knew exactly what it was and didn't pay attention to the warning signs....

 

Low and behold...its the Damn alt....thanks for the help sorry for the late reply and appreciate the help...I was changing my alt back to my stock one. I had the 200amp alt I got from TW.....less than a year old

 

Should be under some kind of warranty. Right?

Robert, if it is one of the alternators from me, let me know. Get me your order information and I will get with the builder. He offers a 12 month warranty on all of his alternators.

Did you find it? When I originally looked for mine, only one seller had it on eBay and now they are all sold out. I couldn't find this particular meter anywhere else. There's no other good identifying marks on it to facilitate a better search.
