Reading through the various threads here, it seems that several problems (real, unique or otherwise) have been mentioned by members. Here is a sample of real and imagined dealer responses to certain problem reports. If yours is not mentioned, feel free to add it. :argue:

    • That is the first time I heard of that.
    • Never heard of that one.
    • That is normal for your vehicle.
    • We can't duplicate the problem.
    • There are no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) for the 2016 Tacoma, so there is no way to fix that.
    • We can't check the transmission oil level unless we can confirm you are having transmission problems.
    • Of course, we checked the transmission oil level ... and the [dipstick, computer] showed it was OK.
    • Wind noise? Maybe you were going too fast.
    • We don't have the part in stock, leave your truck here for three or four days, and we will see if we can get it.
    • Rough shifting? That is just your computer learning how you drive. It will smooth out after a while. Meanwhile, buy our extended warranty and maintenance service.
    • Your MPG will get better after the truck is broken in. You should break it in by driving like [grandpa, you stole it] for the first 1000 miles. Then, take it out of the garage and enjoy your Tacoma!
    • Hood vibrates? You should be keeping your eyes on the road, and not on your hood.
    • Yes, we heard of that, but we don't know how to fix it. Why don't you buy our extended warranty and maintenance service?

Readers with truck problems -- if you are planning on reporting your problem to the dealer, be prepared to have a response to replies such as the above. Document everything. Let us know what your dealer really said, and what happened, in the appropriate thread here.

(Disclaimer: my dealer has not [yet] given me any of the above excuses, but strongly tried to sell me the extended warranty and maintenance service.)

(Insert smiley face :) or icon of frustration :annoyed: wherever appropriate)

Not covered under warranty / out of warranty (thinking of that smog pump).

I've heard 5 from your list.

How about: "It's a truck, you are going to feel everything." Then you feel like listing off the various trucks you've driven / owned before but stop, realizing it would be like arguing with people on the internet. You accomplish nothing and just waste a lot of time.

The tranny fluid issue is going to be a hard one to ignore. It means both Toyota filed and the dealer failed.

Seems like lots of issue with this truck, I just purchased mine and seems to be normal for the technology truck is equipped with, Like adoptive transmission and advance tech engine which will adjust to driving and shifting habit.

Why do people continue to fall for the bullshit. It's not just selling cars and trucks. It's with everything from houses, doctors, banks, and anything else people try to sell you. It seems like once you buy it it's yours. Extended warranties are bull shit yet people buy them all of the time. Hell if a product is worth it's weight why would you need an extended warrenty. We have just become a nation of people out to screw the other man and the hell with it. It is funny that sales people will call, email the hell out of you to get a sell. Once they got the sell they don't even know you This is why I am dealing with several Toyota dealers at the same time. I am not loyal to anyone, and if one of them gets me what I want then fine. I am still not loyal to them because in the end it is just a game.

about the tranny fuel seems like its on most of the Toyota build in North America, Quality control is the major issue in Facilities here.

This day and age you will find lots of them, internet had change the whole car buying process, and dealer these days do not want to be on Google ,yelp, and other reviews, the most important thing is be up front and you can tell if person is honestly eager to help or just another sale.

Try a smaller, family owned dealership. Mega dealers are so high volume that they have a hard time not doing what you're saying. The dealership I work with is fantastic, but it's on the small side

All things being equal, that's going to be the most expensive place to buy or service your car.

Nothing. I told them I wanted the tranny fluid checked because of XYZ (insert reason here). They said ok. While it was cooling off they checked for codes. None came back. They let me know that part and said it was still cooling down so it'd be a little longer. Guy checked it and said it was 1.5 qrts low and said he guess it happened at the factory sometimes.

Those responses in the OP started with the release of the 2GEN in 2005.
They've had 10+ years to perfect what they say.
I've heard the same thing in 2006.

in all realty the dealers make more money on repair and parts than selling that is hard fact.

And I hope you said to him "no sh*t"!!!

Look all dealers whether they are the small Mom and Pop store or you local mega dealer they are all in it for a five letter word ..... MONEY! The sooner they can get you in and out, with sales or service, the more money they are making. Simple yes? Lets start with the salesman who is either a slime ball who says he's your best friend or if your lucky some over worked stiff who is not a gear head but need a job and is under the gun 24/7, not a pleasant life I would think? Then on to the service department where the real bucks are made and where you now meet the service "advisor" who tells you what a lucky deal your getting while ripping you off or if you stomp your feet and complain enough the service manager. His job is to crack the whip on the technicians to move repairs on as fast as possible while telling you one BS line after another why they won't, can't, or find your problem. Oh well I know I sound like a pessimist but if you know that is just the way the ball bounces the better you'll be with dealing with your new car dealer. Sucks but dat's life!

What I'd like to know is since Toyota is paying their dealership for pre-delivery inspection charges is what do they expect from their dealer to check when the new vehicle arrives at their dealer's lot? Mine just washed the vehicle, spit on the tires, and slapped a state inspection sticker on it (even better now for them since the state did away with the visual sticker).

I'd also like to know the percentage had to pay the rip off "dealer fee's" when they bought their truck? I shopped multiple dealers in my surrounding area and each one demanded this extortion so this makes me wonder if its not a manufacture policy enforced on their dealers? I wish now that I would of had my salesman put it in writhing the things like the transmission fluid and U joints that would be checked before I took delivery but like most of us we sadly take people at their word and live with the consequences.
