    Hello

I'm a new member and currently talking to a Toyota dealer in Canada about a used Tacoma 2013 TRD (double cab, automatic). According to the sales guy, all SR5 and TRD trucks in 2013 come standard with a towing package (that includes Tranny Cooler, engine oil cooler, upgraded Alternator, 7 pin wiring harness and trailer sway control)

However,I looked at the 2013 Tacoma brochure (here: https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&sour...ggdMAE&usg=AFQjCNF5k4DS_G8ItdLrh3YiQD9GRCfqEg) and it says the towing package is optional on the Tacoma and to get the tow package you need the "V6 Tow Package". I haven't been able to find out if the towing package is indeed standard on the 2013 TRD.

    Does anyone know?
And what can I look for to determine if the TRD I'm looking at has the extra towing package?

Thanks in advance for your help.

im not sure if the tow package comes standard on the TRD versions. What to look for though is under the rear bumper, you will see an square hole and that is the hitch receiver. also on the lower left hand side under the bumper you will see the trailer plug. It should have a flap that can be flipped up and you will see the connection port. If you dont see that then there is not tow package.

In the US the 4WD TRD models come with a standard tow package.

That's why people got pissed with the 2016 because now it was optional and they charged for it.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Someone should remind them Toyota was charging for it in both cases.....

This is true, no such thing as a free lunch. BUT with the price hike of the 2016 (which in my opinion was not warranted to begin with) having to pay another $650 is ridiculous.
Midsized trucks shouldn't be in the mid 30 thousand range but I digress.

you can get a TRD w/o it but that is rare. almost all of them shipped with (mine for example) one of 5 packages
and all TRD's automatic V6 had tow with it. to get 'turd without tow' was special order

How much are they charging on the 16s? It was 650 on my 15. Entune Plus and Towing were required options.

Does it matter if its TRD Off-Road or TRD Sport? Mine is a V6 Auto Sport and it came with the towing package.

It all depends on the area you live in and what the dealers request. The tow package is an add on that is not standard equipment with any TRD package. It is a package that is installed on a lot of TRD Tacos. There are two flavors of this package...the Factory Tow Package and the "Port Added" package. The Port set up is a lower rated hitch and only has a 4 pin plug...that be it and it lists for $550. The factory tow package includes the higher rated hitch, tranny cooler (autos only), oil cooler, bigger alternator and battery and some computer controlled trailer sway control (based on 2015 models) and lists for $650. For some reason, TRD Pro's with factory tow are fairly rare (of 18 listed for Ca when I bought mine, only 3 had factory tow and only one was Inferno). To check for full factory tow look for a 7 pin connector by the hitch (big round one with a flip cover vs a 4 pin flat connector), the oil cooler has a small can type unit located under the oil filter, the tranny cooler is an extra, though pretty small, mini radiator located in front of the radiator. There is also wiring for a trailer brake controller installed on the factory tow package that may or may not be included on non tow package vehicles. Port set up is rated to tow 3500# and factory tow is rated at 6400# when a weight dist. hitch is used.

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone have pictures as to where the connector for the trailer brake controller is hidden on the 2015s? If it’s behind the little panel located to the left of the ebrake, how do I remove the panel? I usually don’t have any trouble with this kind of stuff, but this is my first Toyota.
Thank you in advance for any help on this issue!
