I can't comment too much on FCL (aka COOP) as a company. Overall I think it's a good concept and they've done well to move towards selling mostly local foods.

However, yes, COOP is the lesser evil compared to WalMart for sure. I still think that the local COOP needs to really do a lot better job of keeping quality product on the shelves. My wife and I have found relabeled and expired meat in the local store a few times. I know times are tough but the management of the local store needs to do a better job on QC. The local Sobies is awesome for that and they also stock local produce.

There are plenty of good local options out there.

It really depends on location. I live in the ghetto and the coop one of the best grocery stores I have ever been too. When I lived in country hills, the sobys there was one of the worst stores I have been to.
My buddy says co op is the sound of shit hitting the floor. Still makes me giggle.

Well FCL also sells into the ag input market as a dealer. So some guys have an impression of them from that side that could be positive or negative.

Carbon sinks, carbon neutral, buy local, the COOP???

WTF - I go away for 2 days and the Alberta BS Thread turns into the Alberta Toyota Prius Thread?

Next thing I'll read is a debate on what is the best place to buy homemade soap at the farmer market.

really sad that you can find an apple here from New Zealand or Washington state a lot easier than one from BC. I dont get the math these super markets work with. Also oranges now from South Africa! Guess Florida and California are too local.

I talked to an apple COOP grower last year and he said it's because our apples are so high quality they go to Japan and Korea where the price is better. Also, some growers are now growing these massive varieties with weird tastes for the Southeast Asia markets again because they will pay more for that than we will for old fashioned varieties here.

Florida is losing groves to Citrus Greening fast. It's a scary disease. California has been out of the orange market for years. California chose to grow other higher value crops for export to China. US Orange production is in serious trouble. The president has mandated action, it's that bad.

Most of France believes they were liberated by the French army in WW2.

They also believed that they could of held the line in a confrontation with Soviet Russia without any German, American, or British assistance. They also refuse to share intelligence data to the same degree that other NATO partners do. France is that kid in the classroom that thinks they are smarter than everyone else but keeps getting D's because they don't study at all.

France left NATO under De Gaul and seperated their commend structure at one point from NATO. That makes me and most people think they thought they could go it alone against the Soviets.

It's also a well known fact that internationally France shares almost none of their intelligence information.

De Gaul was a world class AH. We should have imprisoned him when he last visited Canada.

The Federal one, no. I voted NDP in that one. The provincial one, I did not vote because the riding I was in at the time in the last 4 provincial elections has voted anywhere between 90-95% PC - so what's the point.

    @Tunngavik did you see this:

If you check out the vote break down not only did the PC's win, but there was a fairly even split after that between the 3 top parties. The NDP lost most of the vote from the last election that they had in that riding. I would suggest that this is what we will see in the next provincial election. It's anyone's game... except the NDPs.

Looks like Africa, Indian and the middle east is a hotbed of tolerance.

I've worked / lived in other countries before and I can tell everyone here - the stereotype that "only white folks are racist" is the biggest load of bull I've heard. Try going to China and ask what they think about blacks (they even photoshop them out of movie posters) http://variety.com/2015/film/news/star-wars-china-poster-controversy-john-boyega-1201653494/ or East Indians.

Try going to Mongolia and ask them what they think about the Chinese.

Try going to Saudi Arabia and ask them what they think about people of other religions/ethnic groups.

Hell my old family doctor who was East Indian used to constantly rant about "people from the middle east" in racist ways every time I saw him. I dropped him because he would talk more about that than what I came to see him for....

The list goes on an on......

Well we should not get into political talk as it's against the COC. I really hope you are not being serious when you call the NDP communist. I voted NDP because they promised balanced budgets as opposed to spendthift/selfie Justin and the moronic anti science "Harper Administration".

Provincially I might not vote NDP but I have to say the people who blame the NDP for Alberta's current woes are out to lunch. As Canada enters into more and more international trade deals, politicians are becoming increasingly irrelevant aside from being administrators and caretakers of regions, provinces or countries.

They they gave away their power to multinational corporations a long time ago and it's only getting worst with the TPP.
