Well I must say that I appreciate your civility, and I hope to hold up a mirror and shine it right back at you. We do not agree on everything, and I am glad to have a spirited debate. Pun intended...

    A. Smart: when one has a simple argument it is much harder to tear apart. Usually, simple is more powerful than complex. A very complex machine has more parts to break down.

    1. What is this proof? If I had proof of a place where you could drink the water and return to a healthy, robust 24 years old (I'm 34), you would ask me for proof! And especially to drink the water!

    2. Your friend may have been an Atheist, but is not now. Hard to believe this person was ever an Atheist, truly. I see where you were going but I could easily come up with someone who went the other way, and became an Agnostic. No?

    3. Irreducible Complexity seems like a great argument for what might be called "Intelligent Design," as if someone or something "made" biological machines very complex but with one twist- any one part removed would destroy the machine, and destroy any possibility that it evolved or was assembled by chance. Feathers are one of these designs, super complex when viewed by their use for flight, but more simple designs when understood in light of their property of heat insulation. “More so than other structures, the bacterial flagellum resembles a human machine” (DeRosier, 1998). The homology of this Flagella motor is much like many other structures, and components are just like other cell parts. And much like feathers, these parts have been co-opted into other functions in more complex strategies and designs.

Take a look and see for yourself. If you are familiar with the electron transport chain, you'll may see similarities- not in 2D, but wrapped into 3D.

    4. Yes, the Earth is easily provable to be more than 4999 years old. Starlight goes a certain speed, and since we know the distance of some stars to be billions of miles away- you can say for certain that the light from those places is as old as the journey took at the speed of light. In other words, a star that is 1 million years away at the speed of light- the light arriving now is 1 million years old. WMAP has announced the age of the universe to be 13.5 to 14 Billion years old. And if you look at mountains with your own eyes and measure the amount of erosion or uplift on a given range- you can calculate the ages pretty easily. Also, carbon dating is valid back to 65,000 years or more. There is no uncertainty about the Earth being "old."

    5. Soul. I dont believe there is a soul in the same way I do not believe in the term "mind." We do not see in 3-D, the back of our eyes are flat, so, your brain "created the illusion" of 3-D. You feel robust and alive, and you are. But, cut me open and what comes out? Brains, blood, goo, whatever. If you destroy the body, no soul leaks out, and if you destroy the brain, the "mind" is nowhere to be seen.

If I cut off my hand, would my soul become hand-less? (This question makes me guilty of leading the witness!)

    6. Thanks for your careful reading and insight on your side of things. Its a pleasure knocking a volleyball over the net with you. I hope we can keep this up. I had not thought about the argument of Irreducible Complexity before- its really good. But it dosnt seem airtight because the objects involved arent irreducibly complex, but as an argument- wow. Its a good one- and if we truly find one of these types of objects, I would declare it to be a great marker, if not proof, for something other than random automatic assembly.

I noticed a few folks left this thread lately, and particularly under my own post. I hope it wasnt something I said!

And yes, it's real- add em up. There's nothing you can do to change it! There is a number after 665 and before 667 just like there's a floor above floor 12 and below floor 14. By any other name, its the 13th floor...

Everyone has the right to believe what they want. Just don't push your beliefs on me.

Most of my family on my mom side are some mormon, catholic and baptist. On my dad side are some christain and catholic. I was raise by mormon church when I was 5 to 12 years old. Most of my family and I am just independent.

I have nothing to against people's religions and that is what they believe in. I know all of them are different.

All I keep in faith and not to be bad person like abuser or killer or worse than that.

This thread is tougher that the Energizer Bunny.... Still going

Morality is doing what is right no matter what you are told.
Religion is doing what you are told no matter what is right.

I don't believe in organized religion-it distorts and manipulates the true word of God. I belong to Calvary Bible Church-we study the bible and nothing else. I was raised Catholic and fortunatly I came to my senses.
