the whole "its a new truck, it needs a new trans" is such bullshit. Its used the second he drives it off the lot. The dealership is fixing your issue and will cover your reman trans fully. I dont see an issue here besides ignorant people with unrealistic demands.

Why would you want a new one, after your new one just failed? Wouldn't you rather have one that's been manually gone through by a human?

It's a principal things for me.

I'd like to say Toyota has corrected any production problems and that a unit produced on a production line is probably more consistent in quality but, I can't really say that...

But, the fact he bought and paid for new and is getting remanufactured just doesn't set well with me...it'd be different if his truck wasn't new.

Wouldn't reman be just another label for what is being used on the new assembly line? I can't imagine they've taken in THAT many transmissions already, rebuilt them, and have them ready for this sort of fix.

The trans that came in your truck was new - how did that work out for you?
Point being, would you rather they repair it at the dealer? You're better off letting them get it from people that work on those every day - reman is likely as good as anything.

Nah. You're not getting it. The "new" one he just had failed, and lots of other people are complaining about their "new" ones. What's getting another new one gonna do?

Oh no, I'm getting it and in fact said in my first post in this thread you originally quoted that it would probably be ok.

It still wouldn't set well with me...buying a new truck and having a remanufactured transmission installed...not cool in my book.

So you'd rather have a new one that's got the same issues as the one that is getting replaced.

This is likely where most of the remans come from. Somebody on the line built one and during inspection something was off spec or mis-assembled or got busted in handling, so they put it aside, grab the next one and send the other tranny back to get remanufactured. It likely has more attention and inspection into it than a "new" one.

We really don't know if a new one would have the same problem or not...nor do we know if the remanufactured unit is ok or not.

My point is he bought a new truck at a new price that seemingly had a manufacture defect. And now they (whoever) want to put a remanufactured unit in it...it's not what they agreed to sell (hopefully) and would guess it's not what he agreed to buy. I have to wonder if OP would have been willing to pay the same amount for his truck knowing it had/would have a remanufactured transmission (not that it doesn't happen to customers who never know). I'm guessing the reman unit had a problem (of some sort) & he can hope (and it may have been) it was correctly diagnosed and appropriately repaired.

I'm not sure he has a choice. In his shoes I'd take what they offer unless I could drive their decision but, as I've said, it wouldn't set well with me.

What if, instead of calling it "re manufactured", they said we're giving you a hand built unit with better tolerances to ensure your satisfaction?

I guess it's all in how you sell the sizzle. I think very often people overreact to erroneous wives tales. Just like, I'll never lease because my cousins mothers brothers uncles dogs sister got a bad deal. Or I won't buy a red car because the insurance is higher (my personal favorite, I think it actually causes my blood to boil lol)

Is it possible that toyota has been aware of the problem with these auto trans and the engineers came up with some changes they put into a reman ? you could be a test subject , to see if they have corrected it .

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
    The DEALERSHIP is fixing it??

No. Toyota is fixing it. The dealership is doing the labor and getting reimbursed. If Toyota doesn't want to have to repair a ton of shit on brand new trucks they should wait and actually release a reliable vehicle.

Dude you nuts ? You letting them put reman transmission ? in brand new truck ?
Hire lawyer and start working on "new" transmission. Reman means some Joe Shmoe opened it in some basement, instead of new transmission build in clean dust free environment.
I would not even discuss reman transmission, its not like you bought used truck.
You are better of selling that truck immediately after they put reman transmission.
