The problem is some trucks don't have it, then develop it. Extremely unlikely a rubber mount would deteriorate so quickly.

If the Toyota engineers found out the engine mounts are the source of the vibrations, a TSB, or a LSC (limited service campaign) will likely be issued and they will repair it free of charge. If you voluntarily replace the mounts before they say they are the problem, you will be footing the bill.

Unless after a "wear in" period, things like the exhaust and whatnot are resonating differently, thus causing the mounts to handle it differently. Just a random hair-brained theory.

If a TSB comes out to address the issue, yes. Otherwise, I can't share inside information, as that can cost me my job.

Haven't other Tacoma's (1st and 2nd gen) had buzzing noises without a recall? Or have they. Is the 3rd gen buzzing more widespread or much worse?
Edit: Don't mean to sound cynical. I have a truck on order and am wondering if this vibration will be passed off like other gen tacomas as "normal characteristic" or something like other generation tacomas, without any fix.

Drove the late model Gen 2 and there was no buzz at all...there might have been a little vibration here and there; however, what I felt was normal. This high frequency vibration was not in the Gen 2 that I drove. IMHO, the Gen 2 Taco was a much smoother ride, at least in comparison to my '16 Limited.

Got a call from Toyota 'customer experience center today" telling me that the engine is "really not under powered because it is fuel efficient." I stated that my complaint was a high frequency vibration in the steering wheel and gas pedal that was not present at delivery. The rep then began to tell me that this was "Normal Operation for a 2016 Tacoma." I stated really? I will be pursuing a Lemon Law buy back.....keep you posted...

Bummer to hear, did the motor mount investigation dry up for you?

From what I can tell right now the fix is either new motor mounts and or a software update for the engine. Right now the AT in my truck is in gear hunting mode which is part of the problem. Guess MT would be less severe... AT cannot figure out where it want's to be constantly shifting poor MPG...I looked at the [TACO] 2016 and the 2015 on lift. The 2016 has a larger carrier [yes RUBBER] bearing, stronger leaf springs. Stronger frame. The only difference is the new engine/ AT [V6 only]....So, lots of improvements...seems to be an engine that needs a RPM software update and or improved engine mounts --- the mount to the transmission and engine is new--looked at mine and it is rubber--not deformed..Bottom line I drove a 2015 TACO--none of these issues. Seems to be a MAJOR engineering FLAW... Needs to be fixed ASAP of Totota will loose the market [60 %] to GM. Bottom line...I would put the 4.0 engine and transmission from the 2015 into the 2016.

Funny, I looked under my 2015 Taco and there are 4 leaves per each spring pack.

I'm happier each and every day that goes by that I bought the 2015 and not the 2016. Still think the updated 4.0 they used in the FJC was the way to go instead of the 3.5.

    Please do and good luck.

I really hate that line "it's normal". It's fucking not normal for a honest human being, corporate slave or not, to lie through their teeth like that. I accept that there may be manufacturing and even engineering flaws. What matters is how these issues are taken care of. When some low life like said "rep" blatantly denies an obvious defect, it makes my blood boil. There is a space in hell waiting for him and people like him already.

With all due respect, the "rep" is almost certainly simply relaying the information that he/she has been given from further up the corporate ladder which is where your anger should be placed.

With all due respect - no. There is a concept of simple personal honesty. If the rep understood the customer concern - numbness inducing vibration - an honest answer at the very minimum would be "I understand the concern, we are unable to offer a solution at this time". Not "it's normal" bullshit.

If they say anything other than "its normal", than that creates legal complications for them and opens up liability claims. So yes, they are paid by higher ups to say that.

Just shows how fucked up the society and system have become. Or maybe it always was. Lamentable either way.

I don't disagree with you, and don't condone Toyota's actions; however, in the lawsuit-happy society we live in, everything is all about C.Y.A. these days.

Went in for 10k service yesterday. Didn't say a word to the service writer other than I was there for the 10k service. Then walked into the head of service departments office and asked if I could speak to him for a minute. I told him I was about at the end of my rope with this vibration. To my surprise he responded by yes we have had quite a few people tell us about this. They knew exactly what I was talking about and informed me there was still no TSB for it yet but had heard a rumor of something to do with the intake Plumbing into the engine. He asked me if I would be willing to let them experiment on my truck. I said absolutely and he had to order a part to try the experiment. I'm sorry to say I was so excited that they were actually listening to me and willing to try something that I did not get the exact part that he was going to order. I do know it wasn't an expensive part and when they get it and they have to actually dissect it, disassemble it, cut shave some material off of it and reinstall. Said my factory part would be kept to put back on if it didn't work. All this being said I got my truck back with a fresh oil change an hour later the tires rotated and I don't know what they did to it I think they have to take the skid plate off to change the oil filter but for some reason the vibration seems a lot more subdued since the oil change and I know I'm not imagining it. A little bit less annoying right now for the last 24 hours...
