Replacing JBL subwoofer? What fits?

    OK, so I have the JBL package in my truck and the bass is low. If I wanted to add a little more thump, but keep it moderate, can I fit a subwoofer in it's place?

    It is a 20cm woofer, which converts to 8", right? Will something like http://www.jlaudio.com/10w3v3-2-car-audio-w3v3-subwoofer-drivers-92150 fit? I'd have to change the amp as well, right?

    I can install the units, but choosing, I am noob.

    I'm interested in this, not for more, just for a replacement down the road. Whenever the sub blows I want to replace it with a more durable one and not spend a fortune that Toyota will charge for the replacement.

    That is the dilemma, hate to go back stock but don't want something the amp cant push.

    TTT. How big is the stock amp? 8" seems crazy small.

    I've learned this little thing bumps well if you listen to a disc or through the AUX.

    Can't even tell it's there with the radio.

    Found it. 45 watts to the sub. Hopefully it's loud enough with some minor changes. I've currently got 2 12" with 400 watts turned up about 1/4-1/3.

    I think it sounds great with sat. or ipod. But many on here hate on it. I've even gotten negative rep for saying I like it. I guess that means I have to go all out with an aftermarket set up even though I'm happy with it. :rolleyes:

    Another problem I could see is that the JBL digital sound processor most likely limits its output. There's probably a point where sub output stops increasing even if you turn the volume up more. This is done to protect the sub so Toyota isn't replacing them under warranty. A different sub might give more output but the result would be marginal. Also you would need to match the sub woofer impedance. The JBL website says dual voice coil sub but you would need to measure the factory amplifier impedance to match up a replacement.

    If you really want more output I would look for suggestions on how to add an aftermarket subwoofer and amp to the factory JBL system. I know members have installed one of these http://www.jlaudio.com/cp108lg-w3v3-car-audio-microsub-subwoofer-systems-93133 without having to modify much(I think no modifications at all). They also make one with an amplifier built into the box which should also fit behind the seats. As far as getting a signal from the factory system I am unsure since I don't have the JBL in my truck.

    Impedance is determined by the driver - not the amp. The amp operates to an acceptable minimum impedance load, but the driver determines that value.

    LED interior lights. Steering wheel mod. New radio. Amp, speakers and sub woofer.
    Nope. You will get no sound. You can add the amp after the jbl amp and it will work fine.

    Is the jbl amp stable at 4 or 2 ohm? The reason being, I ordered the pioneer 8" DVC 2ohm to replace the blown stock. I just don't want to fry this jbl amp.
