Not something I care to ever do again. I didnt find the shackles as bad as cleaning up the old shock mounts from the axle and frame though. It took a lot more finesse with the mounts.

The flip we used the plasma on the rivet heads, flap disk to grind down to the frame. Once you see the outline of the rivet use a air hammer to quickly get it to pop out. With the bed off that part took an hour
    IMG_20160226_114152.jpg

You can see where the air hammer got sidetracked a bit on that left rivet. :)

Not looking forward to it. I don't have access to plasma cutter nor do I have an air hammer. Worth a harbor freight trip?

Archive Garage recommends just drilling them out.

I bet it would be much easier with the bed removed. How tough is it to remove the bed? Im considering doing the shock relocate and would prob want to pull the bed. I like the supports you welded across the frame! I would prob gusset up a bunch of stuff if i pulled the bed off. Cheers

Air hammers are super cheap. Do you have an air setup in your garage/shop? I didnt use air tools on mine but when we did my buddies he had the air tools and it was a bit easier.

Yeah I have air. Maybe I'll do that, couldn't hurt. There have been other projects when I wish I had one anyway.

    Removing the bed

    1. 6 t55 or t56 hex bolts in the bed

    2. Remove 3 or 4 bolts from behind the tailgate to remove the lights. Unplug lights and pull wires out and let them dangle under the bed.

    3. There are a few clips to the bed and the tow harness to unplug as well. Just climb under and look. Don't forget the reverse camera needs ti be unplugged if you have it.

    4. Gas filler cap needs to be popped out as you lift the bed. I woukd suggest 3 people to lift it. Remove slowly and have the 3rd person look for any caught wires and watch the filler cap.

    Rivets:

Carbide tip bits will be able to drill it out as well as a cutting disk could cut them off. You could probably just use a flap disk to grind them down and a BFH and punch to pop them.

Drilling rivets out suck. As long as you take your time stepping up bits it isn't too bad. But it's still a hassle. I drilled out all of the original bump stop mounting rivets

Hell no lol, but getting the stock parts off wasn't that bad. I think the worst part about the swap was getting my axle centered oh and pulling the gas tank but ya'll won't have that problem lol

Its a good plan. A new flap disk will eat up that rivet for sure. With all the slag that the dirty lightsaber left i ended up using the flap disk to clean a lot anyway.

Still any excuse to use the plasma is a good one IMO

I'll go ahead and tell you unless your compressor is a monster you're gonna waste time with an air hammer. Grind off the heads, sledge the bracket off, grind the heads again, then torch them out.
