Because that would take twice as long. They would have to pull his tranny, his truck sits there with no trans attached, trans gets shipped out, put in line for rebuild, then shipped back, then reinstalled. And, guess what, at that point he will be getting the same thing, a reman transmission, it would just be his original case. They can send one that was already pulled off a truck and sent through the rebuild process, this way its there, remove old, install new, truck is ready. Old gets shipped, put in line for rebuild, and ready to ship to next dealer needing a transmission.

Uhhhh... seriously ? You don't think there's a new transmission available ? Come on, man.

By the way, I'm not an estimator, you may have me confused with one. I investigate liability, evaluate injury claims, negotiate settlement of them, and assist our attorneys in defending lawsuits. I don't work up estimates or order parts but I do get involved if there is a dispute over property damage issues.

I'm sure that because the transmission is a new design. Toyota would rather remove the transmission, have it shipped out to Toyota from the dealership so they can inspect it and see what wrong. Thats how companies do quality control. The transmission that they are replacing will have been inspected and will work.
As per usual BlueT is making some crap up about how the value of the truck will go down and they will be using subpar parts in the transmission. The transmission is new and Toyota isn't going to send out one knowing it has substandard parts.

I tend to prefer new parts as opposed to remanufactured, but many of you have a good point about remans. My concern is that remans may not come with the same warranty the "new" truck has. This happens on other types of products. Something goes wrong that results in the mfgr having to replace the product...the replacement is usually a reman with a 60 day warranty. IF Toyota will warranty the reman trans to match the remainder of the warranty for the original drive line, that would be fine...but I don't think that will happen. I also think resale could be affected if a CARFAX report showed the trans was replaced. Remember all of the trans issues the Dodge Stratus had. Resale on those went in the toilet.

Okay. And ? Maybe you can go to work tomorrow and see if you can source a new transmission. :)

I feel that Toyota tied their own hands on this one. It is a "sealed" transmission, so the customer has no way or responsibility to check the fluid. It passed the factory quality control with low fluid, made it through the dealer PDI with low fluid, so how is the driver supposed to know. That being said, Toyota has no choice but to continue the remainder of his warranty, and for customer appeasement, they should tack on extended term at no cost. Had there been a dipstick and it was low, that would be a different story, but, had there been a dipstick, we wouldn't even be discussing this issue right now.

I seriously doubt that what we "feel" will have much impact. Toyota does have a choice. It will be interesting to see what Toyota actually does for the OP (for a warranty).

i dont see why there would be any warranty things. at minimum it will still be under his 5yr/60k warranty and they may even offer a 100k on his trans.
For the people talking about carfax. one I dont think repairs like this would even show up and two, this is a replacement of a defective part. If this would lower the value then so would changing an alternator or anything. Replacing a part that went bad with a new one would have zero impact on any value of the truck.

I think that if the Dealer does all the work that the warranty will apply on the new transmission.

I wouldn't worry about it. When I was selling auto parts the reman stuff actually failed less than the brand new ones.

This is silly, if its fixed, its fixed. Reman is the only option and wanting a new transmission is absurd, the trans that will show up will be effectively brand new anyway, there's only a handful of 6 speed taco trans anyways.

I've put hundreds of remans in on brand new cars and I haven't heard someone complain like this. Another reason full disclosure isn't best with the customer.

Did anyone hear me complain? I was just interested what others thought. Thank fully there has been a few constructive comments.
And I have to disagree as far as "full disclosure". The "attitude" what they don't know won't hurt them. May be fine right up until there is a problem later with the same part. Then when a different mechanic or dealer says " did you know your truck had a remanufactured transmission? Huh, no I did not. My dealer who I buy 1 or two new vehicles a year from didn't tell me. Or, should I say MY FORMER DEALER!

And yes the trans will have the same as the standard warranty as the truck. I will check on maybe getting them to extend it. But, after reading some of the responses I agree the "reman trans" might turn out to be a good thing!

I would like to add that my Dealer and Toyota have been great in taking care of this. Also, this issue was unlikely due to low fluid in the trans. My truck had not exhibited any of the symptoms I see others having. Sometimes stuff just happens. Hopefully, this will be my only problem.

I really have enjoyed the truck up to this point. And for the 3rd Gen haters. I would buy this truck again.

The Ac60 series is also used on the other side of the pond for I believe a year or two . Some internal parts are identical to the Ab60 series used in the Tundra
Dealerships dont dig into the transmission like they did in the past . Could be a small internal issue , still gets another transmission

Didn't they just start delivering '16s about 5-6 months ago? I find it interesting that they easily found a rebuilt tranny.

My father is a owner of a independent auto transmission repair shop here in MI, I used to work him for during my teens/early 20's so I know a few things about the industry. One thing is for sure, nobody, not even dealers will replace transmissions with a "brand new" off the factory line unit. It's not a cost effective way of doing business. I'm willing to bet the dealer will end up rebuilding the current trans in his truck. It could be as simple as a crappy valve body or faulty solenoid. But, if they do replace it with a complete reman unit I wouldn't be too worried it's not like they're taking a core exchange unit with 100k+ miles before it's been reman'd.

Have them check your tires. If they are defective, you might be able to score some used tires from them.

Maybe you got my trans after Toyota rebuilt it. I wonder who's trans I got when they replaced mine a few weeks ago!

But yea reman is better than new. Means a tech went thru it by hand and made sure it was working as opposed to a mass produced off the line tranny.

If I could buy a new truck and choose, I'd choose a reman over new transmission
