What you need to know about lifting a 2016 Tacoma - Presented by Toytec Lifts

This is the Toytec 3rd gen at SEMA. BOSS 2.5 kit and 1 inch body lift.

Did you get new UCAs or are they stock?

 

OME 887 coils on. BILSTIEN set at zero. Light racing uca's progressive leaf pack and bilstiens in rear

Tires Toyota open country 285/70/17

No rubbing or cutting.

Lift and tires purchased from Headstrong offroad. MAriel was awesome and very patient. These people know their stuff.

This kit is.known as the Ron build kit

 

Just out of curiosity what sort of warranty comes along with your lift?

That is a nice setup! Did you get your speedometer recalibrated? We're you charged a fee or was the service included inthe price of the tires?

 

Yes the speedo and Yaw sensor was calibratedoing

I am curious because the lift you put on there is NOT listed for a 2016. Also Bilstein has never recommended OME springs on their shocks. So I oder if you will have any warranty at because the applications are not listed.

 

Hub to gender measurements? front AND back? sheesh, kind of personal questions, don't ya think

 

To the guys with Kings 2.5 shocks in the back, have you guys noticed more noise than the OEM offroad package? Lots of "thunking" and "clunking" noises when going over uneven/bumpy roads?

I read through all of the warranty disclaimers. I'd say buyer beware for sure. Just my .2 cents.

 

I measured from the ground to the inside of the top of the wheel well. Truck had 310 miles on it before the kit was installed.

Here are the numbers . Measurements from the ground to the top of the fender. All stock tires had 32 psi and on level ground inside warehouse in the same spot.

the standard for measurements pre and post lift install should be taken from the center of the hub (center of the wheel) to the bottom of the fender plastic. With your front driver numbers id say you have the coilovers cranked up to high because you achieved a full 3" of lift when you should only be getting 2" of lift on a 3rd gen tacoma. Taking into consideration the extra 1" from the factory you should only want to gain another 2" of lift. This is so that you aren't maximizing the shock travel all the time.

 

He said that he didn't preload the coils at all and left the 5100s at zero with the OME 887 coils.

 

Yep that is correct. The 887 coil is even longer then the 886 or the stock coil. So a full 3" lift is achievable but with very little down travel if any at all. And I wonder how close the shock is to topped out.

@CDPlaya take some pics of your suspension when you get a chance. I am curious to see how close the bump stop is to the plate and the angle of the CV axle.

I asked Toytec about the Ultimate Lift Kit the Toyota dealer put on my 2016 TRD OR despite that it isn't listed for the 2016 and here is what they said.

"The Ultimate kit will bolt on to the 16's without any issues. The reason that we are not listing it for the 16's as of now is that the 5100's are not spec'd for the extra weight of the 16 vs the 05-15's. So the ride will be a little softer but its really not an issue if you are fine with how it rides."

It seems that everyone is putting 5100 Bilsteins on their 2016 Tacoma. Has anyone had issues? Thoughts?

 

I saw earlier that someone was working with Eibach and their Pro Performance Truck shocks. Eibach came back saying they need to adjust the valving on the shock and then it should be good to go for the 2016. I wonder if the same thing is needed for Bilsteins?

 

I have hub to fender mesurement for this very same set up 887 and 5100 set on 0
The first day after install and short ride around town 24 1/4"
After few days it was dead on 24"
Then I started to notice my front sitting lower compared to my rear, this is about after 5 weeks took measurements and it was 23" 1/2"
Then I bumped on 5100 .85 now it's sitting just below 24 1/2, this is on 2wd.
