Is there any reason why this can't be designed to be taller? Or at least have the option of making it taller for the people that have the OEM tonneau cover?

While I see what you mean regarding removing the screws, that's not always a viable option when hauling other stuff or the rack is loaded.

They would be way too unstable if they were that tall

Ah, ok, that makes sense. Thanks for the response.

That being said though, would it be possible to modify your existing rack to allow folding of the factory tonneau cover?

I'm not an engineer but I would think if the bases were wider to compensate for the added height needed to clear the OEM tonneau then stability wouldn't be an issue?

In theory, but it also has to be cost effective.

You would probably need something that looks a bit like a triangle, wide bottom, narrow top. Probably 6-8" wide at the base, then 3" at the top. It might look funky, but would work.

More like 12" wide at the bottom.

I could, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea. How high did you say you wanted it to be above the top of the side rail?

Really like the idea behind this one. Currently too many other projects on the go, but your site marks my list of favorites that I visit often. Looks like down the road, we'll be in touch!

I can post up exact measurements later with pics but generally speaking the load bars would need to sit approximately 21" above the bed cap in order for both sections of the cover to fold.

I'd be in for a set if you design them!

Just saw this... yes, I like that, but I still need to be able to use the factory tonneau cover.

Nope....but I'm not going to modify these. There are bigger fish to fry.

Couldn't you use the same design as your bed rack and just extend it those few extra inches? Wouldn't the cross bars help keep it stable?

I am curious to know the dimensions of the crossbars. I really like this design, but need to figure out if my Yakima Skybox will clamp around those suckers.
