RRG, what kind of chemicals are you keeping on hand for the bike?

 

Morning all. I work from home quite a bit. We recently upgraded our vpn system so you dont even have to sign in anymore. As long as you have internet you are on the network. Between webex and skype it makes working from home pretty easy.

excessive amounts of brake cleaner because i always think i've ran out and buy more, chain cleaners and chain lubes, wd40, lots of honda polish, oil, etc

 

Like Mike I use the open plastic shelving from home despot for chemicals.

 

I'm looking into getting some shelving for the garage to hold various things. I am thinking about making some of my own, although I have no experience doing anything like that. But can be that hard.... right?

i'm picking up some metal shelves that were on sale at lowes since some of my stuff is heavy. it was only $60, not bad

 

Check CL too. I've seen those modular metal shelves in there multiple times for cheap

 

Meh, toss the WD40, that crap is useless. What do you use for chain cleaner and lube that works well? I have this thick black chain lube that works well but makes a pretty awful mess. It stains the concrete floor and is a bitch to clean off the swingarm and wheel. I've never used a chain cleaner, just soaked the chain in gear oil and used an old toothbrush to get the grime off it.

If it's going to be outside or in a garage, keep in mind that metal rusts. The plastic shelving at HD is actually pretty strong. The one I have in my garage I have LOADED with chemicals, car cleaning supplies, 5 gallon fuel cans, my chain saw and I put hooks on the side to hang a bunch of things on also (like my electric pressure washer). It's surprisingly sturdy and lightweight.

 

He still has dial up.

 

i have a few chain cleaners and lubes, my favorite is the pj1. the repsol one if you can find it is pretty good about flinging too. i always use chain specific cleaner because i know people that have used other things that weren't safe for the o-rings and ended up breaking the chain while they were riding. at my old shop we used a lot of belray products too, looked like good stuff. i use their oil exclusively on the track bike now. many of the full synthetics are still a blend, i believe belray is the only full 100% synthetic

my garage stays pretty dry so i don't think it should be a problem with the shelving. it can be broken down into 2 parts to have a flat surface which is what i liked about it
