Depends on what you're using it for. Works great as a water repellent. I use it in the latches on the gates around the house/garden because it keeps water from getting inside on warm days and freezing on cold ones. Works really well for rust removal/prevention on uncoated steel parts, too. Before the axes and saws get put away in the shed they get a rubdown with a WD40-soaked rag.
And I use it on my fishing reels to keep the gears from rusting too, lol.

 

also good for getting your key to turn haha. i haven't had that problem, but i've seen lots of bikes that have lived outside and it takes some finagling to get the key to turn

 

I used to use it for that, but now I use Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster instead. It does the same thing, just a lot better and lasts a long longer. WD-40 seems to be worn away or washed away very easily and does not do a good job breaking apart rusty bits. For wipe downs, I actually use my gun oil for stuff like that. I keep most of my tools coated in it, just use the Remington Wipes.

 

PB attracts a lot more dirt, though. And on a gate latch it gets all over your hands. That's why I don't use it for anything other than as a penetrating oil.

Little late to the party but for a chemical cabinet you want something metal and air tight. God forbid there was a fire or something. Guess it depends on the volitility of stuff.

Go to New England demolition and salvage if your in the New Bedford area. They had a room full of old metal storage lockers and shelves for cheap money.

 

My chemicals sit on two wood shelves in my basement .

 

Still deciding, not sure if there really is any advantage to the powder coating (considering how much more $ is involved) they are "ROCK" sliders ya know?

 

The bumper just came in attached to a pallet. Maybe I'll make it into a shelf

 

Gotta be some pinterest project like that out there. You can decorate it with some skulls and daggers to make it more tough.

There is a whole thing out there about making furniture out of pallets. I've seen some pics and depending on how good the person is, they come out nice. Cough cough (@Noelie84). I can think of someone on here that could probably do some nice work with them.

 

They definitely can come out nice. @BostonBilly made himself a nice outdoor table with integrated cooler a while ago, if I remember right.
I usually don't do anything with pallets because I've got a reliable source of clear white cedar for $3.50 a board for 1x6x8 D4S. Pallets are nice because they're cheap/free and durable, but by the time you rip all the nails out of them and plane/sand them down it's a lot of work for what are essentially .25x3.5x4 boards of varying quality. I'd rather work with the cedar for most of my projects. It's a lot easier to work with and it's consistent from board to board.

 

I was going to ask the same thing! Figured she'd be like our friend from the great north and have her bumper sitting in the garage for years.

My wife keeps me busy making pallet projects. There a place nearby that makes their pallets out of white oak and maple.
