I am wondering if there is a way to wire up bed lights without running wires to the engine bay. The OPT7 kit is the one I will be getting from @Ohiophil. I am wondering if anyone has wire tapped to a +12Vdc wire either on the trailer harness or the taillight assembly. I need something with constant voltage so I could be SOL on this idea. I looked up a write up on going through the cab but I don't want to poke any more holes into my grommet, if anyone has an idea for me please let me know! Best idea I have had is put both switches (tailgate open automatic on and anytime on/off) in the box and wires along the frame and just up into the engine bay if the wire tap wont be an option.

Looks like if you jumped terminal 3 and 5 of the battery charge relay you'd have a permanent 12V at the trailer connector pin 2

Any chance I can get a pinout of where I will jumper 3-5 and the trailer connector? -- Great diagram. What will these be affecting? I will just jumper around the relay contact then? Will that relay normally close when the trailer harness is connected? So batt to Jumper on charge relay (now always closed contact) down to the harness but how do you know it is pin 2? I guess I could take V readings at the pin somehow to confirm this, but I wanna know what I will be losing in terms of the logic of that relay

I don't have a pinout but just look under the fuse cover in the engine bay I'm sure you'll find the relay. As far as logic, that relay contact closes when the ignition switch is on so you're just over riding the ignition permissive. It says pin 2 right on the harness connector in the diagram I posted.

It's from 09+ I'm not sure what if anything changed from then but usually all that changes is the wire colors once in a while. So just double check with a multi meter

If your vehicle isn't OEM for the towing package,e.i. 7-pin, you won't have the wire from fuse to the relay for the battery charger. or the remainder of the charging circuit to the rear of vehicle. You'll have the slot for the fuse and relay but it'll be sans connectors.
