Right you are, and by driving girls crazy you mean my girlfriend goes crazy when she talks about how stupid manual transmissions are.

I could go either way, mt or auto that is, but the wife has decided it's manual only and I'm fine with that. You need to find different women!

Two weeks of ownership and I'm quite happy with the manual. Never test drove the auto but hearing the issues makes me glad I went with the manual and I hope the auto issues get fixed.

Just drove to work in my Taco with the auto-magic gearbox... I'm really frustrated. Every uphill is a disaster, it just keeps looking for the right gear and just can't find it. Sequential mode helps only slightly, the computer still retains control. If they're trying to 'mold the market', they're going to have to do a better job than this.

Did you consider the manual when you were shopping for your new truck? Seems that Toyota has manufactured way more auto trannies than manuals.

Manual isn't offered on the 4x2s anymore. I didn't want the gas mileage penalty of the 4x4 with the 4cyl (20 EPA hwy vrs. 23 EPA hwy). The V6 with the 6-speed manual 4x4 does better fuel-wise, but would have had to spend $10,000 more on the purchase price.

You can't get an inexpensive Tacoma with manual shift and still get good gas mileage anymore.

I don't think it will be too long before manual shift is hard to find in any configuration.

Ford only uses a auto, but loved the power on my test drive. Update on my mpg, 22.5 avg. One trip in the rain then high cross wind shut it down. I retire next week, so will be short trips, so the mpg will suffer. One tank I got a tad over 25 mpg, going over the route I go to work out of town on.

Drive like my old man status a little, like a 20 something more often. :)

Elko? I lived there out of HS from Eureka in the early 70's.

I love hearing these reports of mileage over 20mpg. Should make me not miss my Chevy as much when the new Tacoma finally arrives. Anybody regularly getting over 20 in a TRD DCSB 6MT with a camper shell?

Does anyone know when a TRD quick shifter for the 2016's will be available?
I had one on my 2013 and even though the new transmission is super smooth, I would like a shorter throw.
(The quick shifter made a world of difference from my '09!)

By the way, you can place me firmly in the manual camp... in over 50 years of driving I've only had 3 vehicles with an automatic. Definitely a control freak.

Has anyone replaced their shift knob on their 3rd gen yet? if you what did you do about the plastic chrome ring that locks into the shift boot connecting it to the shift knob?
