Yeah, I saw the car coming as I approached the intersection and slowed down when it looked like they weren't paying attention. I had control of the situation and the fall was cushioned by the nice fluffy stuff on the ground.

That's cool. I totally jacked my elbow a couple of years ago, similar situation, but lost the feeling in my arm for about 2 years. Good Times!! :frusty:

I would imagine that would make being a mechanic a bit challenging.

Yeah, I don't work on cars that often anymore though, just stand over my techs and yell! Just kidding, they're good guys.

Alright! A day late, but we are starting the photo a day. I didn't have much time today since I have been working on a big paper due tomorrow but Ash and I spent some time in the backyard to cool off before I got back to the grind. Did I ever mention Ash is the poster child of yoga? This guy has the perfect downward dog form.

Checked in on the engine today. They finally found the root of the problem, which was in fact dirt. A LOT OF IT. The intake on the engine was caked, which probably means dust was going through the stock filter too. They are doing their best to clean it out and then will run a camera down it to make sure its perfect. I had the light dusting in the air tract but this was a lot.

Anyways the block is complete. He said they took it .5 over, which I don't know the units on. The head needed new valve guides and should be done next week. He is shooting to have the truck back together on friday and at the latest, monday.

Now the question is how to prevent this from happening again. A snorkel is the obvious answer but which one?

$500 for a piece of plastic
    $100 for a custom snorkel like @weldertaco
$50 to do a in cab snorkel
CAI to suck air from the engine bay instead
Or reroute the intake into the cowl of the truck?

I'd go custom or reroute into the cab. $500 piece of plastic for expo points. I personally wouldn't do a hot air intake.

I rather like the in cab design. Afraid the noise would be to much though.

I agree, I almost did that on my land cruiser, but didn't want the extra noise.

I ran mine into the cowl right above the fresh air intake. It is almost unnoticeable during normal driving. I do hear it when I get on the throttle but it is not that much louder than normal road noise. My KM2's are louder going down the road than the intake.

So your engine problem was sucking up dirt. Did you do any mods to your intake?

No mods. Just removed the fender liner exposing the intake. Quite possibly the dumbest location I have seen for an air intake.

Took this a second ago and it beats what I took today sadly. Was a packed day with school, work and homework. Taking some time to blow off stress the best way haha.

.05" over i standard amount. Usually the max most blocks will allow to be bored. .02" is another.

    Weird about the dirt..

Id get a real snorkel and pre filter. They work and are easy to install.

I just hate the look of a snorkel. The hilux snorkel looks the best but it limits airflow...which is painful for a 4cyl at 7200ft
