I have. It works good for weight in the back especially for snow. I chain it up, not secured. If i wheel with it i use a ratcheting tie down.

 

Yea I do my own maintenance, cheaper and use I better quality. Plus I got some down time since I work only one job. Lol

 

That's what I said. I was fawking shock, I can't believe myself, specially I just put it on before anza trip.

 

I like doing it to learn my vehicle's different pieces. I've learned more about suspension and how vehicles work in the last few years than I've known in all my years just because of wrenching on my own truck. I've found it usually ain't much cheaper (tools, higher-end parts, my time, etc.) but it definitely is a good feeling when you finish swapping out plugs and didn't break something!

Sand will absolutely destroy your bearings and if drawn in through the intake, can score the crap out of your cylinder walls.

The whole aftermarket air filter debate was covered pretty well on the Jeep forums I used to be on. OEM filters are the best filters to use while off road. Any aftermarket filter that promises more flow is doing so by having more space between fibers to allow more air to pass through. This allows bigger particles to flow throug. If you're going to blow out your air filter (I don't recommend doing it), blow it out from the inside (side facing the engine). If you blow the other direction, it will just force the dirt further into the filter. I used to have to do this at least once a week on my truck in Afghanistan.. New filters were extremely scarce.

Well it came out to a bit higher than I remember: $26 for the cabin and $28 for the engine intake, but Claremont is running a special: buy a cabin and get the engine intake at 50%. So it'll be out for $40.

As long as you don't pay shipping and don't need it next day: buying online is probably best. =) I wish now when I picked up a bunch of weekend project stuff on Amazon I'd thrown air filters in.... gah!

I run an aem dry flow with a sock. Just a tiny bit of dirt gets by when I'm out in the desert. When I was looking through aftermarket filters it looked like injen let the least amount through. But I'm a wild case. I do like the dry flows better than the oiled filters. You don't really need a filter until you are boosted.

 

True but this is why aftermarket use oil that goes on the filter. Also stock air intake has double filter. Now if your using short/ cold air intake, filters are more expose, depends on the users if the have covers, or how frequently they clean filters

 

Yeap. It's always feels good, feel accomplish when your own maintenance. Specially when you know that you save chunk of cash, plus you what you put in your truck.

 

It feels good building your own truck. Saves a bunch of $$ but takes all your time. Also all you can blame is yourself
