Looking for advice- I have an 06 Tacoma, double cab 4WD. I took to a dealer today for the frame inspection. They have offered to replace the frame saying it is unsafe. They said I must pay to replace shocks and steering shaft as part of the repair, that I am responsible for these.
Does anyone have experience with this- should I attempt to force toyota to pay for 100% of the repair or should I accept this?

Toyota isn't gonna pay for the extras. Tell them you want to do your own shocks and see what they say.

05 dc did not cost me a dime, but my shocks were reused as they are 5100s.

Buy some 5100's. You can probably pick up the better shocks yourself cheaper than you could get 4600's through Toyota.

    - and consider yourself lucky. Lots of people with ruined frames are having huge fights with Toyota and still not getting new frames covered.

This is complete BS. You are not required to pay anything. They can 'ASK' you permission and explain to you how much it'll cost but you are never required to pay anything.

My dealership suggested my air filter be changed, my spark plugs be changed, and my park brake cable was deteriorated. I refused ALL of it. My frame repair cost me NOTHING.

If you have another dealership nearbye, I'd go there. Otherwise, I'd totally refuse the repairs and make damn sure you have that in WRITING.

Just got my 06 Taco 4x4 back today! A lot of new black parts on the underside.I didn't "need" any parts replaced which I knew but have to say Carlson Toyota in Minn did a great job and at zero cost ! I take great care of all my stuff but when I picked it up I was impressed!! Washed all over and a clean and detailed interior to boot. The new rear spring packs really make the old TuRD feel new.Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!!!Real nice to see Toyota step up and fix the problem,,,at least for me.....

I just had mine done also. No cost! If they have to bust your shocks or anything else to remove them it's their problem.

Had my 05 done last year. The rep told me they would replace anything at parts cost told them (no labor) I needed wheel bearings and asked about shocks. They never gave me a price on shocks and told me bearings would be $850 one side) also said I needed new steering rack that would cost $1300 plus labor. Told them to put it back together and I picked it up. 2 shops told me rack was good and had bearing done for $375.
There are some shady dealers out there but also some good ones.
Depend on how much you trust them.
Not sure where your located but maybe check with other member who had it done in your area see who they recommend.
Did they say why steering was no good?

As others on here have said NO labor charge for that other than parts if needed and if you pick up shocks yourself to charge for install. Tell them you checked with Toyota and they might want to also because nobody else is paying for it. A bunch of threads on here that you could print out and show them. Good luck. And as stated here above, maybe new dealer.

4 leaf pack (3+1). In addition you will get LCA's (lower control arms), new brake lines, wiring harness, etc.

Is the leaf spring recall the same as the frame recall? I had my leafsprings replaced free of charge but wondering about my frame??

it is separate. I'm fighting with them now..I'm due for the frame recall any day now...They know I have the Dakarrs...but they're telling me they have to put on the stock leaf packs per the recall. I said..don't you put your crappy leaf packs on....he said we'll cross that bridge when we get there. He better not be a dick about it.
