I'll be in the same boat in a year or so. I had a 2011 F150 5.0, liked it alot but....in the 2 years I had it and only about 16k miles I had it in the dealer 8 times not including regular maintenance. 3 times for a transmission whine(trans pump and torque converter replaced), a shutter leaving stop signs before and after the trans issue(not resolved by the time I sold it) and it overheated on me while in traffic. But otherwise I liked the truck. My dad has an 08 Silverado since new, mostly electrical issues over the years and about 3 years ago rust started badly and he washes his truck weekly or more, now he added a 16 Silverado to the bunch and hopefully this one is much better for him. I have grown up in a GM family my whole life, more than a couple work for GM corporate or manufacturing. I like their new Silverado but I'm unsure after seeing the consumer reports and seeing reliability first hand.

I worked for a Toyota dealer for about 5 years as a tech and guess what, not too many odd issues came in. If there was a problem it was usually covered under warranty, TSB or from customer fault. Very few oddball issues that had our heads spinning. I will say its hard to look at the price of a Tacoma and then look at the price of a full size domestic truck with all the rebates and they are almost the same price, but look at what you are getting. I have been wanting a Tacoma since I worked at a Toyota dealer, I tried the F150 and as you can see it didn't work well...shame on me. My next truck will most likely be a Tacoma or Tundra.

I just picked up a 2016 Chevy Colorado 4x4 3 weeks ago. I was torn between the Colorado and the Tacoma but choose the Colorado for the more spacious interior. They are both great trucks IMO. You give up some off-road ability with the Colorado but gain front and rear space and a bit better technology. Good luck!

I actually felt like the interior on the Colorado was much smaller, but then again it was from a door to door perspective, not front to back. The DCLB Colorado looks killer with a decent lift/level. I probably would have bought one myself, but the 4 month waiting list sent me across the street to Toyota.

But fell in love at first sight plus a short guy and a full-size looks like he's compensating for something, this truck fits me more for sure.

I just got rid of my 2015 Tahoe. It was a piece of shit. I had a 2014 Silverado too... another piece of shit.

Stay far away from GM. I will never buy a GM product again. Too many issues to list. After two new vehicles that weren't worth a damn I learned my lesson. The kicker was the poor customer support from the dealers in resolving electrical and mechanical issues.

All I read is reliability in these tacos'. Yes I owned one, 2yrs driving this thing and I had enough. Between the maintenance schedule (replacing spark plugs at 2yrs with only 10,000km at my cost), piss poor mileage, stage coach drive, poor performance, ugly interior with 0 features I mean not even power captain chairs, dinky box, weak tailgate (scared to sit on it), Nissan micra interior space etc etc. All you talk about is off road capability, how many you guys taking your new third gens off road?? Last thing I thought about was taking my $45g truck off road! So yes I stepped into a new 2015 F150 FX4 5.0 with locker and 3.73 rear end. No comparison, I love driving this truck! Buy whatever you want, its your money. But I've def spent mine wisely this time.

You know I forgot about but your response reminded me, a friend of mine where I last worked bought a Colorado. He had to take his in consistently for issues throughout the first 2 years. One dif though the dealership was working hard to keep him happy.

Partly why I went back to a full size. For close to same price of loaded Tacoma, I got my Ram. And it has features not even available on the Tacoma. The options list is long. And the mpg is nearly the same. The ride and comfort is night and day.

I bought a new 2003 Sierra back in the day, the girlfriend at the time her dad work for GM so I received the employee discount. I liked the vehicle, but was put off on the cheap feel of the interior and the ongoing service bulletins (tail gate straps, emissions, etc.) to me it didn't make sense for a company who was in the business of making trucks for decades to have these minor issues.

In 2008 I bought my first Toyota, a 2007 4Runner (Stella). The reliability was amazing, changed the oil, tires and brakes from '08 to August '16. I had full confidence in that vehicle and wouldn't think twice about jumping in it for a long road trip/vacation.

I decided that it would be nice to get back into a truck and to me the only option was Toyota, I was not up with the times with the 3rd generation being released. I went to the dealer test drove a '15 Tacoma, really liked it and actually put a deposit on one. I then started researching and found out the 3rd gen was being released in the fall, so I cancelled the '15 Tacoma. I was a little eager to get into something new(er) and didn't want to wait until Nov/Dec. They had a 2012 4Runner Limited (Ralf) which I ended up purchasing, it is a great vehicle, but a little too flashy/fancy for me. Perhaps a trail version would have been better.

I went back into the dealer about two weeks ago, test drove a 2016 Tacoma manual AC and automatic DC. Loved the manual, but for everyday use it didn't make sense to me. I ended up ordering a DCLB automatic TRD sport MGM which should be in the end of the month. Very excited, my first Tacoma!

Long story short, other than the Tacoma my choice would be a 4Runner. If you grab a small utility trailer you have pick-up functionality along with room for the family if needed.

PS: My first post btw, glad to be part of the group.

I'd like to see a Ranger as well, but thinking even in '17 it may not be out, they have Rangers in other countries, & saw one a few years ago (debadged) in high country/Colorado Rockies for high altitude testing. Even had a diesel in it. Was not that great looking actually reminded me of an updated Frontier, so sure Ford would introduce something new for the US.
    Eco-boost ??? Bring her on.

A mistake . My 07 Xterra off-road was killer, & unmatched for off-roading (except a Rubicon). Great everyday driver .
An updated Xterra would be well received (and no not converted to a car like the new Pathfinder)

Welcome to TW, post up some pics when you get it!

I think you meant automatic, as I'm pretty sure DCLB doesn't offer manual, and since you said for everyday driving it didn't make sense to have manual.
