Did you mark and punch holes by the rack itself or aligning and mark by bolt holes in roof?

I used a Sharpie marker and made a small mark on the paint alongside the weatherstrippng, exactly where the holes will be punched.

Is it possible to drop the headliner and plug the holes from the inside of the cab? I am also considering dropping the headliner and putting soundproofing on the roof to kill the possibility of wind noise in between the two a pillars.

Side track, do the sound dampening work. I was amazed at how much quieter it became after doing this. There really are quite a large amount of harmonic vibration noises coming from the roof area.

I have already done the doors and back wall, it helped. Do you have to pull the seats to get the headliner out?

No you don't. I dropped the A and B pillar covers, the two flip open bolt covers above the front row seats, and the overhead console. From there I broke the glue seal in a couple of places and then disconnected the dome light wire and slid it out. If you were to take one of the seats out - passenger seat seems ideal in this case - it would however most likely make it allot easier of an exercise.

Thanks. I know on the cabrac everyone talks about leather punching the weather stripping or putting it back in between the mounts. Just curious if people do the same with topracs like your ARE. Because the ARE's have weatherstripping on the cargo rails as well. Seems to me if you do not put the weatherstripping back in, the rails will collect dirt and water and eventually rust. Or are they really just for looks?

dang, leather punching sounds like a breeze compared to drilling with a 3/4 bit. that sucked as the rubber just got all jacked up. I ended up having to clean it up with a utility knife.

It took a little time, but remember the metal strip in the weather strip. As Zach's instructions show about cutting it out. After all that I leather punched mine and was pretty easy. I put the strips back in and am going to seal and install the rack this evening.

Question #1-rubber gasket for wind deflector? I am assuming it's to close the gap between bottom of deflector and top of cab? If so you don't want it touching the cab?
Question #2- with a 14 ft. Kayak mounted to the rack. Would you try and tie the ends off or just use the tie-down eyes and secure it with straps for hauling on trips?

Thank you! Was a little worried about the vibration maybe wearing the paint over time where the gasket touched.
