Ok so i bought a toytec spacer lift with the AALs used....now someone on toyonation has some 885 coils for sale...my question is, is if i decide to get the coils do they just slap right on like stock? or are there some sort of spacers or anything needed to mount them on? I'm guessing the 885's will work fine with the stock shocks right?...i really am not planning on offroading, maybe very light if at all...so i'm just wondering if there is any long term benefit with one vs. the other?...just off topic a bit, i went today to a shop where i'm gunna be getting new tires...the tires i can afford right now the largest they come supposively is 265/70/17s to go onto my stock rims...are these really gunna look that small with a lift? i also showed him a pic of the toytec spacer kit i got and he's telling me that it there's no way it's gunna lift my truck 3"...please tell me he's just an idiot

The 885 coils replace the stock coils and your stock shocks are fine to use. I don't really know the benefit, but I suppose the ride will be a bit stiffer up front. Also, if you use the coils, don't use the spacers...its one or the other. Personally, I would just save the money and stick with the spacers. The 885s help you get the full 3" up front according to the ToyTec website.

Also, I live about 10 miles from ToyTec and spoke with one of their techs. I have an 08 Double Cab TRD Sport and he said the spacers are fine. I don't really need the coils, especially if I don't offroad much. They'll help with a bit of the backcountry for camping and all. It sounds like you're using your Taco like I am, so I'd stick with the spacers.

About the tires...no, they won't look too small at all. You get a bit of height going from the 265/65/17 to the 265/70/17. I actually have 285/70/17 and the height is fine. Also, if you look at moraink's rig, he's running the same size you are and his rig looks sweet:

The shop guy might be somewhat correct...with the spacer, you'll probably get 2.5" because you have a double cab...with the coils, you'll get the full 3". IMO, it really is no big deal. Stick with the spacers. Here's my rig:

well if the spacer's give you say a 2.5" lift, what in turn does the AAL give you in the rear...i'm kinda hoping the truck will sit move level with both the spacer and the AAL or am i wrong? Hey did you install the spacer lift yourself? i've never done any suspension work, but i am a fast learner...i'd like to try to install it myself, other then compressing the coils, is it really that hard to accomplish? and did you go with a diff drop as well? also how is your steering since the lift? i really don't have 600 to fork over for UCA's right now

    sweet truck BTW

Thanks for the comps! The 2.5" is really a guess after the truck settles a bit. You're probably a lot closer to 3". Per ToyTec, the 3" lift kit with spacers and AALs will level your truck. The AALs are actually supposed give you around 2.5", since the rear sits a little higher stock than the front. With the kit, you'll be level, so don't worry.

I actually had a shop here install it for me since I was too lazy. I think all you really need to do is compress the coils, and you're fine. A couple of other items I did add were the front differential drop kit and rear shims from ToyTec. The drop kit will help when you get the alignment done. The shims are supposed to cut a little of the vibration, I think.

The steering was fine with the stock wheels and tires, but when I got the bigger tires, I started to drift left. The alignment shop said I needed some UCAs, so I ended up buying some from a guy on craigslist - they were brand new for $550. Honestly, I think you'll be OK without the UCAs...just get the alignment folks to get it the best they can - you'll be missing a bit of margin on castor, but they can get it so your tires won't wear out funny. You really won't notice too much drift and it won't be swirly either. Just get the UCAs when you get some cash later.

Thanks, roxspin! Moraink helped me a bunch with the tires and wheels. I also got some help from TJOPILOT. Without those guys, my truck would still be stock.

BTW, your rig also gave me some ideas when I was looking at DC-1s! Thanks!

The 885's should be used in conjunction with the OME shocks for the best ride. Stock shocks are not valved for the 885 springs. Many people have complained about a crappy ride when they used 885 or 884 springs with stock shocks. I have run spacer lifts in the past, and the 885 springs ride MUCH better than the spacers. :)
