image.jpg Had the hum, got the bushing, installed, no more hum. It's been two weeks and I have a small leak from the seal. Took it back apart and reinstalled the seal, still have a slight leak. Ordered three new seals, three different brands from rock auto. One of them will be the fix. An impact drill makes things very easy. Anti-seise makes disassembly (redo) a breeze.

Just got my 14 taco into the dealer. They are replacing the front differential on warranty.
Bought the truck new from same dealer. They installed a lift and big wheels tires.
Does not sound like removing the lift will help, per what I've read here.
Replacing the while differential seems to be the only permanent fix.

    Is that a good assumption?

I have about 5 or 6 hundred miles now on the new tsb bearing an hasnt came back so far. Hope it doesnt. Like i said though if it ever does i will be using the ecgs bushing. I just wish freakin yota would fix this issue for others.. Or atleast buy the ecgs bushings an put them in the new trucks. What gets me the most is i guess when i talked to the tech who done mine he said he had already done some on the new 2016s. Thats just bs. Knowing u have a design flaw an dont address it.

Not saying its right but its business, they don't want to rip and replace all the bearings from the trucks already built and on lots. They also have the original bearings so they keep using them and hope its a low number of people who come in for issues. When I took mine in the Assistant service manager had a Tacoma with the vibration and said he didn't notice it, I noticed it when they took me for a ride and said it was normal since his does it too. So Toyota will just keep doing what there doing and pay the warranty costs when a few people come in for the repairs.

That's probably the unfortunate truth. It's probably financially cheaper for Toyota to do it as laid out above and then include the improved bearing on future built trucks.

Just got my taco back after dealer replaced whole differential. My needle bearing failure took out the differential... 27k miles on a 2014.

Dealer and tech "thought it should be" the new tsb bearing... Not happy about the assumption but only time will tell.
    Pat number installed was:
    Carrier assembly, differential

I think I'm going to hold off on the 3rd gen until this all gets resolved. I use my 4wd to much to have bull shit bearing problems and nothing changed in design. Somehow my 2007 which has been lifted since 6,000 miles and now has 127,000 doesn't have the issue. Running 33 inch mud terrains the whole time.

It is called a blind hole puller.
People already are having the problem on their 3rd gens...if Toyota didn't learn from the 2nd gens, they never will.

Yup! Smooth as butter now. The only vibes I get are very faint and from my very worn Rugged Fails.

I used one that I rented from AutoZone. It works. Just be patient and get it lined up straight and expanded correctly. The lip on it is also very shallow, which keeps you from damaging the housing on the differential. Once you have it seated, give it a few knocks and it should start to move. If not, recheck the positioning of the tool.

I did this today. Getting the upper ball joint to release was hard. Getting the axle to release was gd almost impossible. Finally popped out with a slide hammer and some big ass hose clamps to hold the hook in place. Took like two hours of fn around. Pry bar did not work. Not sure why mine was such a pita. Getting the hub off was cake, along with removing the bearing and installing the bushing. I consider myself a shade tree mechanic, but this was one of the hardest I have done in a while.

Took my 2013 lifted taco to dealer with tsb in hand and replaced the whole differential just like you. They told me it had the updated tsb bearing. All was done under warranty at 40k miles. Truck drives smooth now.

I was REALLY worried about getting the CV axle out...probably worried me the most second to pulling the needle bearing. This, however, made pulling the CV axle a breeze -- https://www.southeastoverland.com/i...ct_id=174&virtuemart_category_id=57&Itemid=33.

I "yanked and rotated" no more than 10 times with a 4lb hammer and POP, the axle jumped right out. Getting the CV back in after the bushing was tapped in wasn't too bad either. I positioned the C-clip with the opening facing down, slid it in as far as I could, then held the outer CV joint so I could get the whole axle as straight as possible, then tapped on the outer shaft with a hammer** and it popped right back in after a couple rotations.

** I threaded the axle nut onto the end of the axle backwards so I was tapping against the backside of the nut and not the threaded shaft of the axle itself.

I wish I had read up more on getting the axle out. Most post I see never mention the actual "howto" removing of the axle.
Had I had seen that link you posted, I may have saved 2 hours time. Im sure some people are able to remove the axle easy. And after doing it once, the second time will probably be easier. Hopefully this was the first and last time I have to do it.

I had the same experience looking for a how-to. ECGS posted an instructional video for the bushing but everything was already setup and they just show the bearing removal and bushing install. I found some videos on pulling a T4R CV, but the guy used a huge pry bar (which I didn't wanna do) AND had a lift to get enough room under the truck to use the bar (which I don't have).

Just purchased a 2013 Tacoma DCSB 4x4 after selling my beloved tuned 08' BMW 335i.

Already changed out the wheels and tires and I have big long term plans for my truck starting with a 3" lift. However, I came across this thread today and became a little irritated! How can a 3" lift cause so much damage to such a vehicle with such a stellar reputation for being strong and reliable?!?

Then I had an idea that I wanted to run by the forum to see what people thought because I like to build for strength and piece of mind.

Would it be possible or realistic to have a company machine a custom needle bearing that could withstand the extra stress from the lift? Since the repairs seem to cost a pretty penny and aren't covered under warranty (after lift) I wouldn't mind shelling out the dough for a stronger bearing that will actually do it's job!

    Companies such as:

It already exists...East Coast Gear Supply. It's not a needle bearing though. Just use the bushing from ECGS...there's 169 pages of people talking about using it. I used it and no problems so far.
