So do you have any pics of your front upper and lower control arms? I know you don't have a CV in there but I am curious how close the factory bumpstop is to the strike plate sitting at 24.5" of lift.

Warranty/reliability is my last worry when buying a Toyota.

Been driving 885s on 5100s for 12k miles now. Everything's fine

So from what I can see you have no down travel at all. If you were to Jack up the front do the tires move down at all? Be thankfully you don't have CV's. Note the angle of your steering tie rod... your CV would be sitting at about that angle. It should be damn near binding or possibly. The shock is probaby topped out. Be really careful dropping off of curbs or ledges at a high rate of speed.

Personally I would lower that back down to the "0" setting. Your shocks, uniballs tie rod ends and lower ball joints would all thank you.

@Gramps How would he correct that extreme angle on the control arm while maintaining that height? A spindle upgrade ?

As a pre runner, he could get lift spindles, camburg or maxtrack. Those should give roughly 3 inches of lift by themselves so he'd have to put the factory coils on the 5100's set at 0. Any lift coils paired with the lift spindles would result in some excessive angles on the uca/lca/tie rod end links.

Edit: I haven't seen anyone do this on the 3rd gen yet, and if I remember correctly the maxtrack spindles gave the 2nd gens 4 inches of lift up front, so I am just guessing at 3 inches of lift on a 3rd gen. Uca's and lcas will almost be dead flat though.

Figured this would be the best place to post this. Ive been looking at suspension set-ups lately and ive decided on fox shocks and coilovers. With this ill be doing an add a leaf for the rear. The question comes with the uca's. I see most people get the total chaos uca's. When looking however, i noticed the ap uca's have a 1.25" ball joint instead of the 1" that comes with total chaos. Why does everyone go with the total chaos uca's when the ap arms have a similar price and come with a larger ball joint which should lead to more travel.

Yeah, zero setting was good amount of lift. But then I got non adjustable ucas, wheels started to rub on cab mount because lots of caster, didn't like how my truck handle with so much of added caster so I decided to bump one notch. I kick my self in the head everyday for not doing spindle lift. It starter that I just wanted to level with 5100 at .85 with stock coils, then found out that stock spring won't work well...so one thing lead to another and now I'm at 3.5" lift...lol

When jacking up the truck it will go up about 3-4" before wheels lift off. I don't worry about shocks being topped out, I don't off-road or jump curbs, and ever if anything go wrong I can fix it, worked on my cars/trucks/motorcycles/boats all the time, newer trust anyone to wrench for me.
Now my rear sitting lower, thinking doing 1.5" AAL and 1" blocks with 3 degree shims. Now it has 2" blocks. What really pisses me of is that driver side is 1/2" lower with full tank of gas, hoping AAL will help with that

That would still give you 4" of lift if you keep stock 3gen coils. After I did my lift I had idea of re-doing my lift with lift spindles 5100 at 0 and OME 884 that supposedly same leght as stock 2gen coils. So that would give you 3" lift on 3gen

Yes. But also you would have to run a longer shock and I am not sure who makes one to go with that spindle. Most lifts and been best designed to work at 3"s or less or 6+" using a Drop Bracket lift. So I wouldn't think the 3rd gen was any different. But someone has to start experimenting with the matrax spindles. So I am curious to see how this works.

So I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on a lift and tires. Simple 2" and 265/75/16 tires. Looking at either Bilstein Adj lift (5100s and AAL) or OME lift kit with AAL. Both kits are available from Toytecs website, I'm wondering if there's anything I need outside the kit? I know UCAs are recommended, but I've also read under 3" lift they aren't needed. I'll keep them in mind though. What else should I look for?

Edit: any Toytec coupons for TacomaWorld members?

Edit2: third option I've considered is just Bilstein 5100s all around set at 0". Does that provide any height over stock configuration?

I would strongly consider getting SPC UCA'S. Even with 2"s of lift your upper arm will not be in the optimal position to get your alignment correct. Also I sent you a PM regarding your purchase options.

I installed the arb kit with 885 springs and an aal. It rides amazing. I believe better than stock. Toytecs discount code is 521600 I believe it still works.
bilsteins set at 0 provide 0 lift.

Called Eibach while in SF for business. They are remanufacturing the Pro truck sport. He could not tell me when they will be out but within 6 months. The caveat. I called Bilstien in NC just now to. Talk to the tech support and looked he has had a lot of calls. The 5100 is getting released in mid year. But only with different snap ring heights to accommodate the higher 16 springs. Also the load on the snap ring is fine according to him. He did say do not use the 2.5 setting. .85 is perfect and the 1.75 height is like 2.5 on the 2nd gens. Not sure about that I always ran 1.75 and never 2.5 and mine rode great. Looks like I am going with 5100s due to the better warranty. He said if they fail just say you have a 15 not 16. Has anyone else called and heard different?

Yes. Got 2.25 in the front and 2.50 in the rear. My truck sat dead level from the factory. Truck only had 12 miles on it when we did it. Just turned 94 on the way home from work. I drive a whole 3 miles to work.

What are people paying to install front 5100 adjustables. 4 wheel parts quoted $360 labor. Is that average. Seems high to me. Thats a total of $550 to add 1" front lift. If that is reasonable then I will get it done there.

Hopefully that price includes the needed alignment. Otherwise, the 5100's themselves don'e take more than an hour an a half tops to install
