That's the problem, The third nut is impossible to remove. I've tried everything.
Yes, I've dropped the LCA, pulled the shock all the way down to gain more clearance.
This is not my truck, but I use it because it has the arrows pointing at the three top hat nuts: The nut closest to the fender (middle red arrow) doesn't have much clearance above it because the fender is right above it and blocking clear access to the nut. In the process of mucking around with the nut, I've rounded off the nut head. Now, I've tried a bolt head extractor, and that hasn't worked.

This is my truck: The nut that's frozen and with the round off head is slightly visible behind the center hump of the upper shock mount. Note the scratched up fender above the top hat.

I've just about given up trying to remove the nut. I'm looking for an alternative way to add 1/4" to drivers side, without undoing this top hat.

I have a propane torch. Will that work?
There's a ton of rubber and metal hoses all in the same area. That's scares me.

Well it should. I have the equipment and welding pads to shield things from heat. I would not be doing it without it.
To be honest right now your in a position that requires things you don't have.
I would just stop right now and get some more experienced help. If you can't get it off now your looking at cutting it off and changing the hat or using the whiz wheel to scarf that nut and release some tension on it and use a chisel to loosen it up.

Yes! Time to cut a notch and start banging with chisel and hammer. Or you could do what I had to do long time ago, which was get a socket I didn't care about, lather the inside with jb weld and put some on the nut then put the socket on the nut and let it dry... Then poof! It twisted right off

No other way to put a spacer in, 'cept to remove that nut and lower the strut assembly. If you know anyone with a mig welder, put a nut (big enough so that it clears the threads on the stud) against the rounded nut and weld the 2 together, THEN use an offset combination wrench that fits the new nut.

    @ work....:sadviolin:

When I got here this morning @ 0500, the house next to here was lit up and surrounded by police. Still no clue what was going on. About 20 police cars, most from other jurisdictions....Must have been something serious.

The wife and I spent the day wandering around Southern Indiana. We saw HUNDREDS of wild turkey, a few deer, and a bald eagle! That was the highlight of the day! We also found a couple new restaurants over the weekend! Good food, friendly people, and low prices. They now have more "regulars".....

+ on the bill payin'.....I'm just now starting to see all the "co-pay" and uncovered by insurance bills from my recent medical issues. The hospital somehow thinks it's funny to send me separate bills for each itemized expense. In the past week, I've got 7 different bills from them.

Where I work is in what WAS a quiet old neighborhood in what is more or less "downtown Louisville". It has it's own police dept. In the last 10 years, the world is crowding in on us. There was a time all the police did here was write parking tickets and direct traffic. Now they have all the problems of a big city.....There's no escaping the problems of the world anymore.

NOPE! Now days I want to be involved to some degree. I want to know what is going on around me. That makes it easier for me to know what to watch out for. Funny how some of the very same skills I learned years ago in the Army are becoming every day survival techniques in every day life.

I'm in the same boat Blue. Our county has changed a lot in the last few years and not for the better. More traffic, drugs, crime etc than I care for. The wife and I are still a few years away from retiring so we plan on hunkering down here for the time being. In the mean time...stay safe!
