Average 18.9mpg in my 6spd Frontier Pro4x. I drive in the city 5 days a week. Gets a hair under 23mpg on long trips with lots of highway. Not bad considering the factory 265/75R16 ATs and the amount of hills and traffic lights here in BC.

Nice to know the Tacoma is just as good or better on fuel, Probably buy one in 5 years.

My 20 mile highway commute is averaging about 21.5 mpg now with a little over 2k on the odometer. This is with up sized tires, sliders and a toolbox in the bed.

Last week it was averaging just under 20 mpg.

Sport TRD 6spd, Dcab 3.5L I get around 17 / 18 average however only have 1225 miles on it. I hope it gets better once the engine has more miles on it.

New front end and still having the cross wind "whistle" just like my '14. The odds of that blow my mind.

I get 21 to 22 MPG average on my commute. 50% highway with light city traffic.

If I drive a lot in city with medium traffic, its 15.5 to 16.

This is being very conscious on the gas pedal..

Trd or dc 4x4 w/tow my transmission was hunting for gear alot and my full economy is all over the place same drive cruise control one day 22 mpg next 16.
I took it to the dealership got my transmission fluid checked was 1.2 quart low greased my ujoints took 3 to 5 pumps and torqued the ujoints to 52 they were more like 30!
Truck drive much better no more unusual gear hunting and mpg does 22 consistently on that same 60 mile drive.
Conclusion: these transmission fluid level issues are real go check it I didn't have any issues or noticed any on mine just got it checks so I feel better about it and it was low.

What speeds are you driving at to get ~20mpg? My in town speed limits are 25/35 mph with highways being 75 so I never have prolonged driving at 55-65mph. Best I have gotten is a hair over 17mpg. Only change to the truck is a set of 265/75/16 tires.

Ill check in at 16.1mpg. Calculated by fuelly. Dcsb auto. I added bigger tires and removed air dam... Is the mpg self inflicted?? crazy some full size pickups get better mpg. Stupid f150 wouldnt fit in my garage HA

Tacomas have never been known for getting good gas mileage and the midsized truck segment is really not a good choice financially. There are a number of full size offerings that provide better mpg, power, towing capability and hauling capacity for the same money you spend on a mid sized truck. The only real benefit you get a smaller truck that can do things almost as well as it's full sized counterpart when size won't do.

You have to want a smaller truck to really stay in this segment and be willing to accept the shortcomings for the money you spend.

I disagree about the pricing... Crewcab 4x4 for under 30 in full size is non existent. I test drove a XL ford f150 only option was the 2.7 eco boost and sticker was 43. Granted they would probably knock off 8-10g. The mid size was still 3-5g cheaper.

3-5 grand is only about 10-15% price difference to be in full size territory. Might seem like a lot of money but it's really not when you consider how much more you get in a full size package.
