Just have a question on technique for those of you that drive manuals.

How do you go from a stopped position on a rock obstacle to moving forward without falling backwards? Sometimes I am wedged up against a rock and I want to slowly crawl over, but I have to let out the clutch and I end up rolling back a few inches when I go from brake to gas pedal. Wish I had some wicked low gears, but all I have is the standard 4-lo right now. Any help on clutch technique here?

    THanks!

That's what the "clutch start cancel" button is for, I thought...

Yeah, I know about that one, but I can't imagine doing that 100 times a day on a trail...

E brake. I've been on a steep (STEEP) incline before and rolling to far back would have me crunching in to a wall (was in the middle of a turn). Pull your E brake, when you let out the clutch slowly you'll feel it start pulling at the E brake, 4Low and a little bit of gas, slowly let the E brake off as you clutch out until you're completely off the the Ebrake and on the clutch. No roll back whatsoever. Ive never used the clutch start (yet) as I haven't stalled in a spot to need it yet.

Yeah it probably wears the E brake a hair, but I wouldn't be super worried about using like that once In a while on a trail. You can practice on flat terrain anytime, just let out clutch in 1st with the E brake on and you'll feel it pulling slightly against the Ebrake. Thats where you learn where the clutch is gonna pull you forward once you let out the brake

E brake is always a good trick. Also moving your seat up a notch or two gives you a lot more clutch control. Also a crawl box would be the best thing but not everyone can afford that so I came up with this little trick :spy: now I can bump up the throttle and use one foot on the brakes and one on the clutch

How does this work with the drive by wire? I have never looked that close at my tb.

Used a brake noodle for a mountain bike (yes that's the real name haha) to run the cable to the back of the gas pedal. It's not as precise and smooth as going to a carb or throttle body but it still gets the job done. I plan on doing a write up on it at some point but I've been really busy lately.

On all of my old rock crawler jeeps I used a simple bicycle brake handle . I would mount it to my shifter handle using a piece of fuel line slit in half so the bracket would secure firmly

For the cable I would run it down the shifter handle then thru a hole in the firewall to the throttle linkage on the carb . This set up worked awesome and never had an issue rolling backwards into another vehicle on the trail

This helped alot on the trail and made for a less stressful time . Also being geared at 123:1 helps alot and having a push button starter located near the shifters 1rst gear location on the dash

My last rock crawler jeep I used that style throttle control and really liked it . I also liked how this throttle control had a feature to adjust the throttle and keep it at a set rpm . I used it to increase idle speed when winching or airing up tires also used as a poor man's cruise control

Exactly. A lot of benefits other than being able to use the clutch and brakes at the same time. Super low gears or a transfercase doubler really slow the hand throttle shine

So where does your hand throttle connect to the foot pedal. I grasp the concept and the amazing benefit but am fuzzy on the mechanics of it.

Very easy just fab up a throttle cable bracket so the cable end attaches to the throttle body linkage arm , not hard at all and very simple to install
