It's very soft sandy and I'm hittin 3rd in 4L with my rear diff lock engage and disengage and right at the top I bog dwn and fail... I was jus wonderin if any of u would recommend maybe 4H station in first or is it jus a lack of power??? Appreciate any help!

When you say "bog down" do you mean the truck isn't spinning its tires and it dies?

It's kinda hard to understand what you just typed. But I'm pretty sure you're asking if 1st gear in 4hi is more powerful than 3rd gear in 4lo... Why not try it yourself and see what works best? You may want to do the grey wire mod so you can use the locker in 4hi. That may help.

Also, when you're bogging down: is your truck an auto or a manual? If it's a manual, you need to downshift. If it's an automatic, you got some problems.

If I let it, it will but I just engage the clutch and coast dwn... Truck will stay spinnin but bury it's self at the top of the hill ... Hit it 4 times can't get past the same spot

I just realized you're going UP on a SANDY hill. You don't need torque, you need momentum. The more power you have, the faster you're going to bury yourself.

Try airing down your tires to about 12-15psi and get good momentum in 4hi in 2nd or 3rd gear. still do the grey wire mod though, cause a locker in this situation could be helpful.

personally I don't think you don't need the gray wire mod. top gear low goes faster than 45, and youre not going to climb anywhere near that on a tall enough ill. you need to drop a gear. that's all. if you can't make it. your tires are the issue. simple as that. like it was said before. drop your pressure, or get wider tires.

Ill throw my 2 bits in,

I hit the dunes atleast a couple times a year with my truck. Sand driving definitely requires its own technique. On my load range C tires ill go down to atleast 12psi usually 10, never been passed 8psi, been too scared to pop a bead. Prolly just being a pussy, idk, i just dont wanna deal with settin a bead on the sand. Anyhow, air down and if you've got the power 4hi seems to be best cause as said above momentum is key to sand driving. Low speed low gears pretty much gets you nowhere in this situation. I have a rear locker and i havent found it to be super helpful but also never had it be really detrimental either...so...maybe on a long STRAIGHT climb the locker might help a bit. But once a guy starts to turn especially when going a bit slower on the sand the inside tire just starts digging down from the tire trying to keep up with the outside tire. Want them tires to stay up on top and float.

Onboard air, air down tires and keep momentum is the key to sand driving. And dammit! Once forward momentum is lost fucking stop!!! Ive got a couple buddies that just punch it thinking thats how ya do it, gosh drives me nuts, they just get more and more stuck. Them nuckleheads do the same thing when we go snowmobiling too, never listen to me. Ive gotten to the point now when we take the sleds out that i usually wont help em get unstuck cause they wont listen to me, unless it was an unavoidable stuck or something like that then I'll definitely help. But dang just let off the gas sometimes! please! Hehe, rant over!

Cool thanks @bry838 yea I don't think I'd go past 10 psi either... When I put the rear locker I got to the exact same spot so as u guys stated I will air down get some more momentum and hit it in 4H see how far that gets me ... Appreciate the advice very helpful rant !!! Lol
