It also has a lot to do with the truck involved. All the dealers I've dealt with are less willing to give deals on 4x4's and long beds as they're more rare.

Your post said you got an access cab. My impression is that all access cabs are long bed.

There are less access cabs than dbl cabs but I agree they all seem to be long beds but it does not change the fact that it is possible to pay a good some below invoice

What I said was 4x4 double cab long beds seem to be in high demand so dealers know they will move fast. So they do not have to discount these trucks nearly as much as other models

My point was I thought the purpose of the thread was for people to compare prices to know how good of a deal you can get based on what others are getting. OTD pricing depends on fees and taxes where you live and isn't relevant to where someone else lives. The price before TTL is what matters as a comparison not OTD.

Went to a few dealers today. I was told they were charging $1500 OVER MSRP for '16 DCSB TRD OR's. Anyone else getting told this nonsense?

Also, I'm having a bitch of a time finding them in any color. Quicksand is near impossible.

Not at all, this was at Boulder Toyota (AKA Larry Miller Toyota) in Boulder CO.

I actually negotiated the deal at Mountain States via email, but Boulder Toyota is way closer and I talked them into matching the Mountain States deal.

Where are the deals at? Every dealer I go to is asking sticker price or more. I want to get the best deal possible. Where did you go to pay under sticker. I'm looking for a TRD Sport DCSB 4x4. Willing to drive all of Southern California.

Good luck staying in SoCal. The most I could find was $500 off. I'm headed out of state like most other people on here in SoCal hunting for deals.

Where did you go? My mom lives in Needles. I could take a trip into AZ or NV. Are there additional fees to pay out of state? I know I'll pay my local sales tax

OK, NOW I think I understand where some guys are getting prices "under invoice".

For simplicity's sake in the following examples I'm excluding taxes (they're complicated in CO) and there was no trade.

Invoice price for the rig I ordered was $34951. Out of the seven dealerships I emailed, the LOWEST offer anyone would take was $35,174 ($196 over invoice).

Four dealerships dropped out before I got it that low, so now I'm only dealing with three.
    • Dealership #3 will take no less than $35,100 plus approx $500 in dealer fees - nope
    • Dealership #2 will take $35,174, but has no dealership fee at all so it's a straight $35,174
    • Dealership #1 REFUSES to waive their dealership fee ($526.20), but "wants to talk". These guys kept their dealership fees, but dropped their price to $34,648.00. They are now at $303 UNDER invoice, but with their dealership fees their price now matches "Dealership #2" at a total of $35,174. These are the guys I ordered from.
Technically, I paid $303 under invoice w/o fees. Or did I?

As you note, the problem with this (and similar) threads is that the numbers are not presented in a standard format. ANY deal with a trade-in is impossible for us to evaluate objectively. But for a straight-up purchase, the info should include:

    1. Model invoice price
    2. Factory-installed options itemized, including delivery charge
[The above can be found at https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-tacoma-model-package-option-costs-master-list.388345/]
    3. Amount paid above (or below) the sum of 1. and 2. above
    4. Dealer fees (e.g., advertising/TDA, doc fee, title transfer, gas, "market adjustment")
    5. Any manufacturer incentives (e.g., military discount, college grad discount, employee discount)
    6. License (only useful for those buying a truck in the same state)
    7. Sales tax (only useful for those buying a truck in the same state)

And then there are the dealer-installed options, which have a huge profit margin and can allow dealers to sell "below invoice" and still make the money that they would like on a hot-selling truck.

    8. Dealer-installed/sold options (e.g., extended warranties, paint protection, undercoating, remote start)

    Here's my own example:

    1. 2016 Tacoma, double cab, long bed, off-road, 4x4 (model 7568): $31,814
    2. tow package (TO): $579; mudguards (MF): $95; delivery $900
    3. I paid invoice + $200
    4. dealer fees: $799 (TDA $739, title xfer $50, gas $10)
    5. no incentives
    6. license plates: $212
    7. WA state sales tax: $3261
    8. No dealer-installed options

OTD price (useful only in comparing within Washington state): $37,860
$939 over invoice (although every one of the 30 dealers I contacted in WA or OR claims that the TDA is part of the invoice!), $1703 under MSRP
