It was sarcasm. I know it's made in NA. Domestic in reference to cars/trucks usually implies poor quality. Appears to apply to thew new Tacoma as well so far.

There's no perfect truck. No perfect ANYTHING. Put down pros and cons of each and pick the one you like the most and be done with it. I picked the Tacoma and I'm happy so far. Yes, there are things I didn't and couldn't get on my Tacoma, but overall I figure it was the best choice for me .....maybe not for someone else.

Same problem, 2016 TRD Sport, 2000 miles on truck, Mine is doing the same thing when down shifting from 6th to 5th coming to an off ramp, first time or two I thought I wasn't getting the clutch all the way in, after the third/fourth time I know it's not me. I "double clutch" when I feel it hanging up, I'm hoping that the fluid is low or a better synthetic fluid might help out,

    Thanks for your post,

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't seem to be a fluid issue. I tried mt 90 since it meets all the specs that the manual calls for, and it didn't help at all.

I am approaching 13k on my 16 taco mt. At first, my transmission was super sticky and hard to shift. Alot of my driving is in San Francisco which is super hilly. The transmission broke in way more than I ever thought it could. It seemed like it's still breaking in at 12.xxx. You should see if the transmission feels better after more miles. Your transmission is still quite new. I could see how many people that have no experience with transmissions with no syncros could have a hard time shifting easily. I used to drive 18 speeds so I have more experience matching up transmission and engine speeds.

I haven't, I don't know about the others. Are you having the same problem as well? This definitely needs to be fixed.

Hey everyone, go linked here from a fellow member. Here's my original question:

"I drove from Kingman Arizona to San Jose California today and after about 6 hours my transmission started acting up. Basically it became very difficult to shift out of gear. While cruising in 6th on the freeway and downshifting to 5th for hills it seemed as though the shifter would stick in gear, had to use a lot of force to get it out of gear. It would shift into gear fine. Same thing happened after the uphill's when shifting back into 6th, it would get stuck in 5th and I had to use force to get it out, but shifted into 6th no problem. Any thoughts? I've only got 4500 miles on the truck and up till now the transmission has always been butter-smooth."

Seems to be the same issue. Only appeared when I was in-gear for an extended period of time. I'll see if I can replicate it on the local freeway to help aid diagnosis.

The last time we spoke , the OP was planning to drive the truck a little more . After a day of diagnosing , we came to the conclusion the transmission is new and very tight and needed more break in time . As the transmission warmed up , tolerances inside the transmission decreased causing the input and output shaft to stick together . They cant actually stick together , but with heat expansion the end play within the transmission diminishes causing the transmission to drag . The OP tried a different fluid but I dont remember the expansion characteristics of the fluid he used
From my armchair without a test drive , this is all I could come up with and is why I recommended to bring the truck to a transmission shop for a " FREE " road test . Those guys know their stuff when test driving and may give you guys more of a definite answer

After reading this thread this morning. I had a 2 hour drive to the in law's for easter. I could not make my truck do as you all described. I tried everything yall said would cause it. Being in 6th for a while on cruise around 70 mph than down shifting to 5th was fine. Tried it in 5th and still fine.

Not trying to be a douche or anything, just read it and was trying to see if my truck did it also. Thought I would post my results to help all the members having this issue. I am also going to try to do it again on the way home.

For those that have this issue, was it this way as soon as you drove it or did it develop after a certain number of miles? I've had mine for almost 6k. With 20 minutes a day in 6th and several 5hours trips in 6th with no issues. Knowing if it showed up immediately or after a certain number of miles may help trouble shoot.

It's been happening ever since my first 40 minute drive. I drove it in the city for the first few weeks, so the problem wasn't very noticable.

Identical issue just started for me around 7,500 miles. I am at 8,300 now and it is occuring more frequently on my daily commute. Almost got rear ended not being able to shift into 2nd to accelerate up a hill last week and had to coast off the road with hazards. That prompted me to schedule a service check with the Dealer for this Thursday. This issue impacts shifting both out of and into gears when it occurs. Similar conditions prompt it: 30+ minutes of driving when transmission under higher loads 60+ MPH uphill or after using transmission to control speed/ limit acceleration when descending hills.

I don't like the sounds of this. 7500 trouble free miles then it started? Ouch. I headed out on a 5 hour interstate trip tomorrow. I'll watch for this.

Likewise, I just hit 4000 miles and have been watching this thread carefully hoping I was already in the clear...
