It was all from the side and i got really low and dealt with it. Little unnerving when it blows you towards oncoming traffic.

Just go slower. The faster you go, the less stable you are.

Aside from the 5 min of dirt road i was on the ride really made me wish for something more street/freeway friendly. I love my DRZ but i can definately see having an FZ 07 or something along those lines in the future. Which is funny because i told myself when i got the DRZ that I was not going to ride much street and just get out on the dirt.

Thats because the DRZ doesn't do anything perfectly. It just does everything.

On the DRZ its most likely true, being top heavy in the wind its not gonna be stable at high speeds.

Or super low speeds i guess. Less than ~10mph could be bad in the wind too. But i was going roughly 60mph on a 2 lane rd getting blown around pretty good.

I think you just need more riding time. The wind doesn't bother me at all when I ride. The seat you'll get used to, or order a seat concepts.

Riding it on the highway isn't bad either. I cruise around 80 on mine.

I definately do need more seat time. Especially time in the dirt.

A larger gas tank is going to come before a new seat either way.

Why buy a bigger tank for more range if the seat is uncomfortable for longer rides? :notsure:

Because I can deal with a sore rear end but i can't make gas magically appear. On my ride today i used a large portion of the gas i had. If i ride out to any trails or local off road areas ill probably be riding at least that far and i would hate to get stranded.

You could stash gas to extend your range. I've done this lots of times. I've got both the stock tank and an oversized tank. If it's a ride that will use the extra gas to get to and from the trail I would consider using the big tank. If it's all trail I'd rather stash gas and use the stock tank. My oversize tank holds a lot of the extra fuel up high when full. The bike is just more fun to ride on the trails when full with the stock tank.

The bigger tank will not only add weight but it will make the bike feel bigger. We have 2 xr650l one with a 5 gallon tank and the other stock. If I was doing alot of trail riding I would much pefer the stock tank. Feels like a different bike really.

But the 5 gallon tank is nice.

The stock tank is 2.1 gallons. The tank I'm looking at holds 3.9 its not really going to add much weight.

Fuel is stupid heavy. You think that bike is top heavy now? Get 3.9 gallons of fuel up high on it. You'll really shit.

My Ninja has a 4.8 gallon tank. Combined with 70 MPG I can go forever without tanking up. Came in really handy when I was doing the long commute.

I never really noticed a difference in the bike's balance between empty and full. :notsure:

Its only ~6lbs per gallon really not that heavy. The extra 1.3 gallons is only another ~8lbs.

If i was going to be flying through singletrack or racing it might be a big deal but for riding on the street and trails it shouldnt be too bad

The only time I see or hear of issues with large fuel tanks is with the large 5+ gallon dirt bike tanks. And most of the problem is with sloshing not necessairly top heavy. I have a 3.1 gal tank on the KTM and never feel any slosh. I hear of it with the 6.6 gal acerbis tank I can get for my bike.
