Well, it looks like it works there. Options are severely limited in these truck. Mine has a bench seat so there isn't even a console.

Saw the cruiser. If I had money I would pick it up and make a good looking, complete cruiser out of the two.

So, no other pics of the antenna install process I take it?

I've taken the rear side panels off before when I installed the rear speakers so have a pretty good idea of what is involved there. I have the seats out now anyways because I am redoing the power wires for the amps and the fridge. Gonna reroute them to the battery in the bed.

How did you know where to drill the hole for the antenna base? Mr Tim spoke of avoiding webbing/reinforcement that must be on the other side of the metal, was it from looking between the headliner and the roof that you were able to see where to drill?

Is the antenna not detachable from the base when not in use? Hmmm. I want to be able to get inside the garage and my opening is lower than yours. Not sure I want to make that compromise. How flexible is it? Is it really stiff?

 

You can get antennas that fold over. My dads does.

id buy that cruiser just for the rear axle at that money

Changing the set screws can also change the antenna tuning i believe...

 

They aren't. Trust me. You'll want to tune it.

 

Yeah, I haven't seen him post in a long time. Do you think it is a Larsen antenna?

Are you implying that removing it via the set screws is bad for this reason?

 

Yea i wouldn't be surprised but honestly...no clue.

 

The length of the antenna changes. And thats how you tune it.

I don't understand your comment about have to park outside if it is as flexible and floppy as you say?

And yeah, the house battery is going in the driver side front corner of the bed.

 

Ham antennas are not flexible. They are rigid steel. Smacking them around actually makes them work worse too so banging them on trees isn't great. Not gonna have to replace them for a long time but still.

 

Well its not a wire whip by any means. You wouldn't drive into the garage with it now would you? its not a CB antenna with a spring

 

Sounds like I might be better off with one that folds down. The Princess RedHead has to live in the garage.

Kind of a dilemma. Needs to be on the roof for better performance, but can't hold up to the abuse it'll receive on the roof.

 

Wait, what? Are you saying now that you can park in your garage? That all you have to do is unscrew it from the base? And because it is kind of a hassle, you are not going to, even tho it means the Guac has to live outside?

Ben, would you mind snaping a few pics tomorrow of what everything looks like detached, both the base and the antenna.
