Finally picked up my GSP at the airport last week. He's taking early instruction very well. So far so good.

 

Let me know when you're ready to start some light training. We can get him out to run with some other GSP's.

Yea, most folks think he's a dobey/gsd or rotti mix but he's a purebred. He just got his good citizen cert from akc.

Yup. According to what I've read, Dobies have a little Beauceron blood when they were being developed as a breed in Germany. Coats are very different, but markings are similar.

Congrats on the AKC Canine Good Citizen certification. You should consider training for a Therapy Dog certification. Similar basic commands, but with an added twist of distractions with patients in wheelchairs, canes and crutches milling about your dog. Loud noises (they throw metal bedpans and buckets on the floor for effect) Also needs to be okay with kids and be able to leave food alone that's on the floor. Also can't have separation anxiety when you hand the dog via leash to a complete stranger, while you hide in another room.

Dogtra 1900S was recommended. I have a Bloodhound. 85lbs.
I'd be using the collar for training. No hunting. Possible S&R once we are both trained enough.
