if there are a limited number of Toyota dealers in your area, it would be a good idea to call and make sure they can get you in before the deadline. Some dealers have had waiting lists for inspections. Others are just taking them as walk-ins.

Before I buy it, I would get the vin and call a dealership or go to Toyotaowners.com, to find out if it has already had the "limited service campaign"(LSC) performed. If the LSC wasn't preformed I would be sure you can have it inspected before you buy it. You don't want to but a Tacoma, then find out it has a perforation in the frame and no recourse.

So just an update since I had my inspection done in January with a failed frame I was told by the service rep to expect a Camry or corolla. Went in yesterday to drop off the truck since my inspection runs out this month and guess what I went home with for a rental........

I don't know if I have the original letter for the recall, but I just took it to the dealer and asked for the inspection to see if the frame needed to replaced. They scheduled an appointment, did the inspection and didn't charge me anything. They said no need to replace. I believe my option for the warranty frame replacement ends this week ...

Not bad. My dealer needed the loaner tacoma back that they gave me and let me enjoy this beauty.

My truck failed the frame inspection its been at the Dealership in Danville Va for about 3 weeks so I still have some time until my frame comes in. They put me in a corolla I tried my hardest to get something with a hitch and no dice. Im jealous of the people that got something with a hitch I don't know how Im going to make it another 2-3 months without being able to tow my boat. The fishing is about to heat up here on the coast of NC. They told me I could come pick my truck back up but wanted me to hold off as long as I can because the service manager wasn't comfortable with me driving my truck for too long with the frame having several weak spots. Im gonna try and drive this corolla for another couple of weeks it gets ridiculous gas mileage which is the one thing I like about it. I have one question for the more seasoned Tacoma owners since I just bought mine in January. Since they are going to have the truck apart for the frame swap I was thinking about putting some bilstein 5100's on it. I currently have a 2" spacer lift up front. Can I ditch the 2" spacer lift for the bilsteins or will that require anything more than just the shocks? I do have 265's up front so will need some sort of lift to keep it from rubbing. Id like to keep it at around a 2" lift in the front if possible.

now that the deadline has come and gone....

call the dealer and say you need a truck/suv to tow your boat... if they continue to give you the run around.. contact toyotacares.... and if they give the run around... contract the NA CEO.

As soon as they told me the frame failed the inspection my first concern was getting a loaner with a hitch. They took a couple of days and came back with "We are a smaller dealer and don't have anything but Camry's and Corollas in our loaner fleet." I told him I've seen plenty of people get a rental with a hitch or another vehicle off the lot with a hitch on this forum and that didn't do much for me. I talked to his boss and he gave me the same BS about if they were a bigger dealer they might be able to get me a vehicle with a hitch but unfortunately there is nothing we can do... I'm going to try Toyota Cares and see if that gets me anywhere. Thanks 81Shark !

I'm enjoying it, fully loaded and very comfy. And getting like 17 mpg average driving carefully.

Just FYI for folks that are waiting on frames. I got a letter last week from Toyota about the leaf spring recall. It said I no longer need to bring my truck in for the springs because their records show I got the new "fixed" springs when they swapped my frame.

I received the same letter also. It stated the new updated springs were included with the frame replacement.

Dropped my truck off last Thursday. They had 16 Camry for me to use for few days. Said they may get started next day Good Friday. So they called today to tell me that the rear brake bleeder valves are rusted fast and it will need two new rear brake cylinders at a cost of $230 to me. That's a job I could handle but getting it home over 2 mountains without rear brakes would be an issue. I agreed to let them do it but feel it shouldn't cost me. Their pos frame is the reason they had to bleed new brake lines. This dealer has been decent so not sure if I should protest the $230 or not. I asked them to switch out the old rusty front shocks with some stock 2012 take offs I acquired. Hope they do the coil switch free. Give and take I guess.

I had my 2008 frame assessed about a year ago and was okay... so is that it? or should I have it assessed again in the future? How long is the frame thing going on? I don't want to find out my frame is bad a month after the recall (or whatever it is) is over.
