After my dissapointment in the Shittybilts, I wanted to make sure the next set were tried and proven. Not to mention, the receipt for spending money on the kickstarter wouldnt help me much for this winter, which would've been the only thing I would have in my hand at this point. :D Maybe when they are on shelves ready to ship and have been proven to work.

I have seen those treads, under whatever name, used numerous times. They have never worked other than in the adds.
Buy a winch, save space and time. Recoveries are measured in minutes, not hours.

I've used the maxtrax multiple time in the past year with success everytime. It is not a winch and no one said it was

Maxtrax work great, i've used them and seen them used plenty of times.

Winch obviously is the best solution, but a good quality one plus synthetic line plus a mount is on the list... just at the top of the expensive as fok list which I am not fulfilling at this point. :D

That's cool, I still think they are a waste of money. No offense. Just my opinion.

A winch is great if you have a bumper and some line, and a hook and good battery to run it. Maxtrax are a standalone that requires nothing else to use them.

You don't need the dual battery. I've ran single batteries for years. You do need the bumper, or a way to mount behind the stock plastic.
Winches come with line and a hook, and in most cases, a handheld controller too. ;)

I know I wouldn't NEED one, but I currently have a group31 agm deep cycle in place of the starting battery which I've heard the starting batteries are better for running a winch. Haven't done much research so I may be ok, I'll look into it when it gets closer. And I was going to do the US Offroad winch bumper mount.

More than likely, when I see a group buy... it'll tug on my pockets and then drain them since if its on sale, I probably should buy it!

A deep cycle battery will work fine if the CCA is high enough. Where the problem comes in is when people run a deep cycle alongside a starting battery and attempt to charge both off the same source. Deep cycles don't like to see 14 volts for very long or they cook. Most charging systems will produce 14 volts for a short time when dumping amps back into a depleted battery.

What is important is using a battery with top mount posts, not side mount. Side mounts Do NOT carry enough amperage and in the right situation, you will melt the lead.
And never run a fuse or a breaker. Always straight to the battery. There's never a need for a breaker no matter what anybody says. :) They will only cause problems.

Good to know. This one is close to 1,000 CCA. And also interesting about the top mount vs side mount. Ferkin electricity is weird.

That one was a surprise to me too years ago. Side mount batteries use a thin strap of lead to get the connection over the side. Top mounts are directly in the plate. Winches can pull over 500 amps so that's the reason for using top mount and avoiding breakers.

    From the Optima website...
    https://www.optimabatteries.com/en-us/experience/power-source/top-post-vs.-side-post/

    EDIT:
Another interesting note, Warn will NOT warranty a winch that has been connected to a side mount battery.

I don't NEED any more convincing. I definitely WANT a winch with the :crapstorm: I get myself into. But they are only useful in certain situations, and sometimes all you need is a little traction...so there's a cost / benefit thing. Once again, I am convinced!

I WANT a pair of these too. They have come in handy way too many times on the trail for me not to justify the purchase. 4 of these would have helped a lot yesterday.

Chains would have helped too. It's been a balance between investing in recovery vs capability. Good chains or tracks are a few hundred bucks, so is a winch. I also have a winch fund going if you want to donate.
