Bilstein 5100's all the way around, fronts @2.5" (highest) setting. Rear leaf springs from a '91 pickup (1.5" lift). Firestone airbag spring helpers. Doug Thorley ceramic coated Tri-Y header. K&N air filter. Tubular steel front bumper.Much more planned!!!
I have a 95 extended cab, 80lb custom bumper, and plans for a winch.
I want to get more than 3" of lift.
Right now I am running Billstein 5100s cranked all the way up with stock coils.
I am thinking I can use Total Chaos UCAs and a spacer on top of the strut plate to get more lift, but does anybody know how much??? I have a 1" polyurethane spacer kit that I would like to use.
The other option I was thinking about was OME 883 coils with their struts (I have heard that they are longer, giving more travel) and new UCA. Could I use a space with this combo too?
I would really like to get 4.5" or 5" of lift, but I do not wat to go with a whole new kit if, i just want to get as much as I can with what i have got plus new UCAs.
I have manual hubs, but I am still a little concerned about maxing out the CV Joint angle

    Any thoughts or experiences???

anybody on here will say that stacking lifts is not a safe or a good idea. you need a full 6 inch lift kit to make your cvs stay intact.

if its 2wd you can get a spindle lift for 4'' i believe

But why is it a bad idea? if it does not max out the ball joint and the front differential is dropped to realign the cvs I can't see what the problem is. I am looking to do evething I can before going to a drop bracket kit which often don't even lengten front suspension travel.

stacking lifts is really unsafe, especially spacers to begin with they put the truck in a position that it is not made to be constantly in and there is alot of stress on the ball joints, and some people even have had shocks break when offroading

If the truck can be properly aligned and ball joints would be eliminated with the uni-balls in the Total Chaos UCAs I wonder what the problem would be? the Billie 5100 with an inch of polyeurthan wouln't have any greater overall length than the OME coil/ strut combo @ full extension.

Can anyone tell me ablout an actual experience with any of these configurations?

you can change to uni-balls with the aftermarket UCAs, but its the lower ball joints on the 1st gen tacos that had problems with shock assembly lifts bigger than 3" or from stacking lifts to increase shock travel and length...

on the older gen tacos, you can search on other sites that have been around years longer than TW and find instances of lower joint failure from hyper-extending the arms...

but, if the truck is staying on concrete you should be ok... there have also been a number of folks who stacked and claimed to have never had a problem...

    your truck, your money...

I guess I just did not want to believe it. The truck is not my daily driver so when I use it it usually gets worked pretty hard. If i decicide to add my 1" spacers on top of my 5100 I will document it, including if and when it breaks...

Did you go with TC's long arm kit?? I gues replacing both upper and lower controll arms would allow me to get more lift without over extnsion.

how about theose nylon retaining straps??? they may help prevent overextension. I kniow they are designed to pretect a shock, not ball joints, but it could prevent the strut from reaching full extension therefore overextending balljoints

you could run limit straps, but just the lift height alone will begin to wear the lower ball joint prematurely, so any further articulation could result in damage...

realistically, you CAN get away with the extra inch, but you do stand the chance of breaking something...

either way, it sounds like you are determined to do this, so good luck with it all...

More lift... I already have the components.
I will do the diff drop, but amIhave had a really hard time finding a body lift thatis compatable with a auto tranny... supposedly 4wd shifter has clearnce issues after installing a body lift.
The Billi 5100 with a 1" spacer wouldave no greater oveall length @ full extension than an OME or Donahoe strut @ full extension.
Now I am rethinking he uniball UCAs

    Any input Chris?

only in long travel, which you may as well go that route if changing upper and lower, plus you can then gain 4 to 6 inches of lift and run 35s

however, going that route, expect to drop about $4,000 for the front end and another $5,000 on the rear end...

Theres a taco at my school that has these crazy spacer things on his that look to give him about 5'' of lift. Iv seen it driving and it looks reeeeaaallly harsh to drive and not fun at all.

i don't think there is a kit for a 5 lug... either way, that's a lot of money to spend on a kid's truck...

you would have to change the front end AND the rear end to 6 lug components...

then figure transfer case, all new drivelines and yokes...

with all that, you may as well sell and buy a whole new truck...

well I have considered doing a solid axle swp, but I always thought it would be more costly than obtaining my desired lift while retaining independent front suspension.
I am now not sure what I am goin to do. I just bought 4.88 rings and pinions, but I have not installed them yet.
I think will go ahead and install them front and rear, get some total chaos UCAs and their reinforcement weld kits for the spindles and strut mounts and new moog lower ball joints and go ahead and install the 1" poly spacer...
It will be a while but I will definatly takesome picsand keep u guys posted.
