Seems overly complicated. Id just build a fender liner and put some mesh over the tube and call it a day. You're over thinking this. The fender liner will take away almost all your major dust. Then just get a nice filter.

The oil catch can? Eventually but this was a unexpected cost for me so I am more worried about keeping dirt out at this point.

This is a primary reason why it's better to overbuild something rather than just do the bare minimum

Yeah but to be fair, he is probably right. I am guessing the crappy dry pro filter let dirt through which caused my valve guides to go bad. Then my spark plug got covered in oil and misfired, breaking the piston rings, etc.

Eitherway, I wan't this damn engine to breathe nothing but clean air. For ~$200 - 300, it's probably worth it.

Ok, this hole I have marked by the red circle. That goes to the cowl, ya? Any reason it would be a bad idea to route the intake through there? Obviously Ill have to drill it larger.

    Do something similar to this?

Did you see the "Airflow" group buy ? Your penciled in at # 22 or 23 withe ? ..... Such a good deal !
I have one , must say it's a great acc. piece to have. I got it for the dust conditions. "Peace of Mind" is worth far more than the cost in the GB.
I don't think you'll survive another episode of motor problems ?
Ya did have the dropped wrench problem because you weren't wearing hearing protection, then gettin tools, help , lifts, etc. all the while juggling school work and a job.... now your trying to design your own intake which will most certainly cross path's with Murphy again fer sure .... So ....
Do yourself and Baby a huge favor and get the Airflow designed and engineered for our truck , you won't regret it , and will have a legitimate story to tell about why you have it . Unlike myself , who always has to come up with a creative reply to stupid questions about it. I'm down to the short version , "It's a Chimney" ... then I keep walking:)

To ease your financial pain , and in appreciation to the insight I've gained reading this thread , not to mention the entertainment and head hurt , I will PayPal you $25 , toward the GB.
JUST DO IT .... You won't be sorry , save the hassle , peace of mind , get back to having fun

Who else can spare a few bucks to a brother in need ?

Haha I did! Certainly considering it if he can get the price that low. I appreciate the offer but I can't accept someone else's money :).

Don't think of it as accepting his money. Think of it as him buying you a few beers. I'd like to see things work out for you and baby taco, where you can look back in 100,000 miles and say "I'm glad I bought that Airflow Design intake system."

Lol, I dont think a diy air intake system using quality parts will be what kills the truck this time.

Haha yes and no. I often tell my friends not to buy me a beer. Does that stop them? No. Will I let a cold beer go to waste? No. :D

Also, talked to my professor about my final project for my Black West course. I will be going to Lusk, WY to photograph a sweet homestead from the 1900's. Not sure if I will do the trip with Baby T or bruiser yet.

I have to check my schedule and see what's coming up. Either next weekend or the weekend after that.
