Bellow is how to install a Homelink Rear view mirror to a 2016 Tacoma TRD off road or sport with the factory auto dimming mirror already on it:

    Tools needed:

    T-20 star bit/driver
    2 hands
    $$$$

    1. Find a good gentex homelink mirror with the 12 pin rear connector on it (must be 12 pin for the 2016s). I recommend eBay for this where you can find a new one for about $180-200, or a "used" one (what I purchased) for about $140-150. Recommending a plug for bobs automotive eBay name @copper_z71 for having these. Price will be different depending on which color you want your new homelink buttons and compass. (Red, green, or light blue like the dash). (I chose green for cost and because it came with lighted buttons).

    2. After you get your mirror, simply remove the 12 pin plug from the back of the oem one (pictured) and then use a T-20 bit or driver to loosen the screw (do not need to remove it (also pictured)

    3. Remove the wire clip from the top by pulling it down towards the mirror (it slides into itself and you will use this to put it back as well at the end) (pictured)

    4. Slide your oem mirror up and off the glass (should not be difficult, loses screw more if it is).

    5. Slide your new mirror onto the now exposed mettle plate on your windshiel and tighten the same screw as before into place until firm (don't over do this).

    6. Insert the 12pin plug that has been hanging from the roof.

    7. Insert the skinny end of the wire cover back into the top of the mirror (with the wire under it) and hold in place as you pull the extending part of it up until it safely meets the roof material. (Pictured)

    8. Power up your truck and have fun. (Pictured)

Update: contrary to what was stated when I purchased, the homelink buttons DO work when the truck is off.

Looks simple enough. Did you have to re-calibrate the compass in the mirror after install?

Will need to do that, haven't done it yet as time is tight right now, but I believe you simply hold the compass button down the when it blinks, re calibrate it to the location.

I bought the same green illumination mirror that had to be out of some kind of a Ford. I would have preferred blue, but I only notice it if I really think about it. Homelink works perfectly. I bought it on Black Friday when they dropped the prices a bit.

Does anyone have any issues with their homelink not working with garage opener? I installed a new opener last summer and none of my home linked vehicles work anymore I have to get a repeater.

I want it in my tacoma and just want to make sure I won't have issues. Are new home links updated for new openers?

I think you need the repeater. The homelink stuff is in the manual and it talks about possibly needing a repeater for new model openers.

Get in touch with Bob from Bob's mirrors, extremely knowledgable and will always answer any questions you may have. His deals on mirrors are great as well.

If you have a new garage door opener, you may need a homelink V (5) compatible mirror. I use mine with 2 older garage door openers and a gate
Opener and Never had any issues, have 5 different vehicles all with Homelinks programmed to these. Use the remotes that come with the garage door for programming, only magically got one car to program one button onetime without the remote.

After much research, what I found is that you must have a transmitter of the same frequency to "teach" the homelink what frequency your opener operates at.

You aren't actually programing the homelink when you use the transmitter. You are just teaching it what frequency to transmit.

Then when you press the learn button on your door opener, you are teaching you door what homelink is sending.

The opener learns the transmitter, not the other way around.

Long story short, we forgot our clicker when trading in my wifes car. The dealer said he grabbed it for us, but didn't give us back the right one...grr..

In order to program her homelink mirror, I was able to use my parents door transmitter since it was also a crafstman that operated at the same frequency.

Just wanted to pass that along if someone needs to program one of these and doesn't have their clicker that is an option.

Has anyone installed the GENK45AMB5 mirror with the open/close indicators for the garage door? I did and everything works fine with exception of the open/close indicators. The instructions that came with the GENK45AMB5 were for the mirror shown above. Mine has some different buttons and programs differently. I emailed tech support at HomeLink and got a BS, knee-jerk canned answer to my question (which had nothing to do with my question). The lights do not illuminate at all. I would assume there is a sensor that must be put on the garage door itself so the position lights correctly illuminate....still waiting for an answer from HomeLink. I was hoping someone else had this model mirror.

My understanding is that the indicators work with Homelink v5, which is a fairly new technology that allows two way communication between the remote and the opener. If you have an older garage door opener, it likely does not support Homelink v5.

I have a source. Just got mine this morning. Once I put it in (next couple of days), I'll post up here to let every one know. I just want to make sure everything is 100% before I recommend someone. Price was right, and same day shipping. I haven't opened the box yet, so can't comment on anything else.
