Never done one, but from the 10-12 people I have talked to that is the average they paid. I am simple being a smart buyer and spender and shopping around. $200 is reasonable but I am going to make sure I take the time to look around everywhere before I decide to spend my money.

Gas is assumed overhead of the shop not to be billed to the customer. Do you expect to see gas or water or electric on your restaurant tabs? Come on now man. Wire is a material you can charge for but not gas.

Remember that is probably paying a friend. Not someone who is running a business

Probably true, so the purpose of my OP was to inquire if anyone in NoVA wanted to make some quick cash and do this job in a business or in their personal garage. You are the first person I went to you named your price personally with me and I am continuing to look around before making my decision. Don't see any issue there.

No issue just felt a little insulted. Since I gave you a firm price but you said differently. Also I'm willing to work with you on price like I did before just have to talk to me.

Its all good you've done nearly all my work so far, I am sure it will end up in your garage, I just figured I would ask around before pulling the trigger. No intent to insult you or your business/ethics, etc.

Not sure if you took my comment as an attack or what, but it was not meant to offend. And yes, typically in a welding shop they will bill you for both gas and wire. They are listed under the "consumables" label. And it's apples to oranges comparing a fabricators bill to a restaurant bill.

Again, not trying to upset just inform. If you would rather I can keep my comments to myself so there is no future conflicts. I was merely trying to give a friendly perspective from a fabricator stand point. (My previous job dealt with fab shops on a daily basis)

Guess you've never seen "shop supplies" on almost every invoice I've ever seen. Overpriced coverall for consummables.

Working in a shop you would all be surprised how much stuff we actually use. Some cars nothing others a ton just depends. That's why it's a blanket charge.

No I get it, I've worked in several shops and it's still an overcharge. Someone shouldn't have to pay $17 shop supplies for a $35 oil change. Should be more job based but I guess it's just easier to charge everyone the same.

Yah but what about waste oil disposal an oil filter disposal? We charge a percentage so oil changes don't get charged as much

That was always a separate charge, "waste disposal fee".
