Been working on a new front plate bumper on and off for the past couple weeks. I like the way it's turning out and I feel like my welds are getting better.

    Look good to me.

You know you are getting better when you think its a shame to paint over a weld.

What kinda material is that table made out of ? i can easily just make a jig instead to serve as a melding table out of birch ply that i can treat with resin and lined with a thin layer of sheetmetal

Im no expert here but i use my retired but still certifiable scuba tank for Co2 gas for my tires as a back up. Any chance they would fill this tank and it be a usable solution ?

What side of the city are you ? I'm in the NW

    I doubt it.

The gas is really not that expensive when you consider that it will take the average home welder several years to empty it. It really does last quite a while.

Secondly, I would hate for some one to accidently think it was breathing air. Not a good out come. Besides, they are the wrong fittings.

    Let me put it plainly.

Do not use a can that is used for breathing air to supply inert gas for welding!

    No one will fill it!

I want to encourage you to be a welder, but this is not an option.

If you were in my area, I would give you a can for welding gas.

Please keep asking questions, but let's move on.

    Cool.

I admit that the best welding machine is a 240v unit...usually.

In the defense of 120v units, I wish I would have kept my first 120v welder. There are very few welds on a vehicle that require a production machine that run at higher voltages. You can use a heavier machine to weld thinner iron, but skill will be required.

The only reason I sold it and invested in a 240v unit was because I was worried about wearing out the lighter duty welder. That was a mistake. It will take a huge amount of welding to wear out a home use machine.

A quality 120v unit will last just about anyone a lifetime. Myself included.

while I agree with your statement I can also say that a machine that is capable of 120/220V burns so much better on 220V. 110V can get you buy but damn running that dedicated 220V line makes a huge difference on how the machine runs.

We could go back and forth like a tennis match .

It all comes down to just what will work best for your own needs

Due to a cash flow problem (Divorce) I got by for about 5 years with my Lincoln SP 125 + and a old Tombstone AC/DC welder it did the job while I dug myself out of the hole from the divorce .

The thin metal got Mig welded anything thicker was stick welded

At least put a sheet metal top on it and you will be fine.

They use wood tables at work but other then some smoldering it is not bad They don`t really weld just make sparks

It is the Plasma cutters that for ever start fires !!

The reason wood tables suck is you're forced to always hook the ground clamp to the work piece which can be a pain with delicate stuff. It's nice to just ground through a steel table.

In there case that is not a problem since they can`t weld they hook it to the piece they are trying to weld on.

Funny people who repair welders and none of them really can weld nor have any interest in learning but blame problems on customers welding process.
